Thank you Verlander for the championship years, 3k career strikeouts, having your vesting year cancelled and for bringing Upton into our lives. But bruh, it's time...
Maybe get him a couple of weeks between the end of the season and (hopefully) the ALCS and see if he can "find it." I think that's probably the best case scenario at this point. Can get by with 3+ starters the first two series.
Not for the (I hope not) Postseason, but for next season, why couldn't it be like Roger Clemens? He owes it
Was going to post: JV isn't healthy and he probably hasn't been all season. His future's best bet is skipping the first half of seasons. Allow his aging body rest Oct-May, then let AAA be his spring training in June. He'll be able to spend more time with family and still have a chance at 300. It might take 5 more years, but at this point, he'll never get there pitching unhealthy (sucking) and pitching half seasons anyway because he's recovering from injuries and only getting 15-20 starts. His body can no longer take a mere 3-4 months of offseason rest, then trying to crank it up for 30 starts. Planned half-seasons is his best bet. The only thing stopping this is pride.
I feel like we are setting the scene for Verlander’s improbable historic dominating postseason performance.
well, at least he's aware he's not great/amazing. will he be mad if astros don't include him in the starting rotation? prolly not. will he be disappointed? oh, for sure.
I think he owes us the consideration, for sure, but, in my best Belichick, "we're not onto next year" yet.
Just hang it up after this season. Last thing you want to do is just hang around. Thanks for the 2 chips but it’s time to move on.
Who cares, but if Clemens or Verlander wants to show up in the 2nd half... I think I'd let 'em No guarantees.
