So, 4/100 possessions per game, almost an indiscernible difference. I think that shows that my assumption above was correct - it was perception, not reality.
That's a small set of data against some particular opponents at a questionable period of the season. That information is not valueless (clearly talent exists within Jalen Green), but in the context of every other month of the season, including February and April, it should be taken with a sizable grain of salt. I put just as much weight, If not more, on Feb, where he shot 36.8% from the field for 12 straight games. That is the point of the season where we got bounced from the playoffs. That's where the dawgs needed to show up. After February, we were fooling around with house money, but realistically the playoff odds were destroyed and we were playing pickup ball against other teams playing pickup ball. Highest scoring outputs for JG in March? Suns with Alperen, Wizards twice, tanking Jazz twice, and a playoff-locked OKC without SGA. Not saying it is nothing, but it seems to me that we found water in the desert, because my god did Jalen Green fans have sand in their mouths for the meaningful bits of the season last year. Hopefully it wasn't an end of season mirage, because we have seen that for 3 consecutive years with Jalen Green.
Sengun wasn't there in April, and Jalen Green looked very familiar. 8 game sample. They need to figure out how to play together. More DHos please. They both do that very well... Some Fox and Sabonis untapped potential there.
Before the month of March Jalen Green as a 19-22 year old in the league was top 10 in league history in scoring average for a player before they turn 22.yes I understand the caveats such as modern scoring, modern usage of young lottery picks with high usage. Still, let us not pretend the dude was Johnny Davis or James Wiseman before March where the dude didn't show anything. Every year a player also experiences a easy schedule. Still the last time a non all-nba player winning a player of the month award was in 2019 just to expres how rare it was for Jalen to be at that level of play for 15 games for a non all NBA player.
No one denies the fact that Jalen was a mindless chucker who has always padded his scoring stats to the detriment of the team.... the issue is his low quality of performance, not the raw scoring totals he managed to chuck himself into.
Not long ago he was 19, then he was 20, 21, and now 22. Doncic was 16 as a professional and ready to be judged. This age thing is the least of all obstacles and used as a crutch.
The pace stat isn’t always a good way to measure how fast you attack or get into your sets, because there are positive things that work against it, like low turnovers and offensive rebounds, and ofc solid defense that causes longer opponent possessions. And note, Coach did say pushing the pace was an emphasis after the all-star break. “But we do want to increase the pace, especially with all these young guys now. Amen’s going to play at a different pace than Fred but once we solidify certain areas, get those down and get our turnovers and shot selection under control, we want to build the pace. That was a big emphasis coming out of the break. In the last few games, you’ve seen that.” https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/5315924/2024/03/05/ime-udoka-rockets-interview-jalen-green/ From the stats available, transition points gives us an added look. 14th in Fastbreak Points pre-ASB = 14.1 2nd in Fastbreak Points post-ASB = 18.4 Notice also our 2nd chance pts went up significantly, which hurts pace. Transition pre-ASB Transition post-ASB
There are also shotclock stats: @Corrosion 22-18 seconds (very early) Pre-ASB = 10th at 12.9% frequency Post-ASB = 4th at 16.1% frequency 18-15 seconds (early) Pre-ASB = 24th at 14.9% frequency Post-ASB = 12th at 16.9% frequency note though, vs the league, we weren’t very efficient at 22-18 seconds
It’s the Amen effect. His defensive abilities and rebounding were instrumental in getting us off to the races. Now add Tari to the equation. You can’t run if you are constantly pulling the ball out of the basket. Adding Amen to the perimeter defense is a game changer. Brooks slows down the offense tremendously and should be sent packing before the season.
And i noted how VanVleet is a walk the ball up the court player before we signed him. He had Toronto near the bottom in Pace (around 28th) his last year in Toronto. VanVleet is too careful in his attempt to keep turnovers low. There are pros and cons to the matter.
It's funny how the Jalen cultists always seem to blame the best players on the Rockets for Jalen's failure.... now the popular excuse is that Sengun and FVV... by far the 2 best players on the roster, hurt Jalen with their quality half court performances and apparently that's the reason Jalen is just awful at absolutely everything.
Yet Bobbythegeek sang the praises of KPJ as if he were modern day John Stockton. Dude is a delusional hater.
Ya that part is weird, it's undeniable that through their 1st 3 seasons jalen has been better. Both have been awful but jalen has been better by a fair bit. KPJ did shoot almost 38% from 3 his 3rd year where as jalen has shown no ability to shoot at any point, so i can kinda see where he's coming from, but it's still bizarre for sure.
If KPJ did not have his violent persona and questionable nature, would he have been a viable player? Maybe but there are no Ifs in this case. And he turned out to be a marginal NBA player. (talent level was starter but he could not do it consistently) The Clippers became a haven for all sorts of delinquents, rejects, scumbags.
I think he definitely had potential to be a 3rd guard. I don’t think he had starter potential but he could have been a rotation player for sure
I mean he could score on all 3 levels, shoot, handle the ball, rebound, steal and block, ....but yep, wasted talent when his head and IQ are not great.
