"Reed Sheppard is going to be FVV's direct backup." Jackson's connected with the Rockets so it seems like the Rockets are immensely invested in him.
I don't think any serious person really sees Amen having a future at PG for the Rockets. It's obvious he's going to be getting minutes at other spots. I'm not going to say one way or the other about Jackson...I mean clearly he does have connections with the team.... but he's just saying the obvious. Yes, after drafting the best PG in the draft, that player is going to be the primary backup for the highest paid player on the roster.
But, what does it mean if you’re not serious, then say “it’s best not to be.”? That’s a Serious Paradox
It doesn’t take a basketball savant, and certainly not an insider to figure this one out. The Rockets valued Sheppard as the #1 prospect in the entire draft, obviously they are going to give him every chance to succeed. Amen has been terrific, and he’s been terrific playing only 8% of his total minutes at point guard in the NBA. This really isn’t rocket science.
Been saying this from the moment we drafted him. I think Reed will be given first crack at being the primary backup at PG.
Hype taking over the quiet parts of the season. Reed struggled in the summer league and it’s unreasonable to expect a major contribution from him this season.
Nah. He got worked just like Iko did. That's how badly they wanted this kid. It can't be overstated just how much the Rockets staff loves Sheppard.
Man, I hope he is right. I’m on record saying he won’t get many meaningful minutes the first half of the year. If they are really this excited about him and Ime and his staff can be more creative offensively. Having FVV, Amen, Reed, Jalen, and Sengun as possible initiators at any one time would really cause match-up problems for other teams. I’m a serious basketball fan despite BTG’s annoying bravado. I think Amen and Sheppard may very well be our backcourt of the future with Amen as the main facilitator on offense and Reed guarding the pg on defense. I also think much like the late part of last year when Jalen started taking over more initiator on offense we will see Amen and Reed sharing that role when FVV leaves depending on matchups. Reed doesn’t need the ball in his hands to be an effective guard and doesn’t have the athletic chops to break down defenses one on one. We are blessed to have 11 rotation worthy players.
