Never seen anything like it in my life. Profar facing the Astros dugout makes a gesture for us to challenge the call (hands over the ears). Kikuchi answered the phone that called down to challenge. Yes, Kikuchi. Jesus, what a game. Craziest ending I've seen to a regular season Astros game possibly ever.
I had better not see such bullsht ump crews in the playoffs. Good thing is they will try to get the best crews...so unless they're blatantly trying the screw the Astros over, it should be a lot better umping.
One of my favorite locker room interviews of the entire season. So it took 10 minutes to make a ruling that the umpiring crew should have recognized within maybe a minute or 2? Jesus, worst umpiring crew of the season.
Maybe those umps/referees who can't do their job effectly should hang up their hats and go do something else instead. They are dealing with high level situation with millions of dollars on the line, and they need to be as close to perfect as possible. I don't expect anything less... the job demands it. I don't have grace to give to incompetence.
He isn’t known as a smart player- talented but not exactly bright. I understand his thought process, Gil was really not paying attention and he had 2-3 different opportunities to go and waited. It’s one of those plays where if you are going to go - you better be safe. I mostly was surprised he didn’t take another step or two at third and then go… instead he didn’t extend his lead and appeared to just go at the last minute. He has been a good player for the Mariners this year, but he took a big risk and didn’t make it-
Neris isn't best guy because we have other guys who are more awesome. The bunt game was a complete defensive failure, which Neris himself helped botch.
The Padres will be real tough in the post season in close games. They are no fun to play after the 6th inning.
Yeah, they're good. They are holding their own in baseball's toughest division. Their ability to make contact puts pressure on an entire pitching staff. They don't have any great hitters, but their lineup is full of good/very-good hitters and there's no auto outs. Pitching staff is a tad average -- perhaps due to injury (Musgrove/Darvish) -- but they're closer to Top 10 than 20th, Good ballclub
There’s no excuse to ever abuse/disrespect/ridicule a referee or umpire and encouraging or condoning such activity is a massive red flag in a human. The frequency of referee abuse/the publics treatment of referees in general is a shameful commentary on society. and theres no excuse for it. None. That type of behavior directed toward any other group of persons just trying to do their job would receive widespread condemnation.
Unless said individuals are being dishonest or being directed to be dishonest. Astros have been top 5 for worst ball/strike calls over the last 5 years. I do not believe that is a coincidence.
Being critical of them isn't being abusive. They make mistakes, but yesterday they were egregious. And for the same player to get screwed for the same bad call in the span of a month, MLB needs to add it to the review options, not that it mattered in Profars case.
