I don't believe he was making a factual statement -- just his opinion on what karma would look like.

Is that such a stretch if Trump loses the election/ends up in prison?

Have you seen them in public? She absolutely despises him.

Melania stays in NY (as far away from from DonOLD) as possible, while Trump is flying across the country with Loomer.

Trump left his wife for Melania. This has been a trend for Trump in all of his marriages and eventual divorces. History repeats itself.

Trump is just as unpopular as he is popular, I never said he was loved by everyone but he continues to gain supporters even after mainstream media slander for nearly a decade... Would people actually really be supporting Trump if he indeed tried to overthrow the government and an election? Or is it something that no one truly believes but the way things unfolded gives the lie wings that lefties conveniently adopt as truth because it 100% helps their politicians.

Without a doubt Trump is not a threat to democracy, if mainstream media was unbiased there wouldn't be as much division and chaos. Imagine that, imagine only asking for unbiased reporting and journalism. Imagine a country where journalism does not exist but a propaganda machine does. Elections are heavily favored in favor of who that main stream media machine decides to run with and any and all reporting on the other candidate is a blatant lie or spin. Its the reality that we do live in today but people aren't asking the important questions, why does mainstream media support one party and only one party over the other? Assuming Trump is everything they say he is, is it their job to inject opinions and spins in order to sway an election? Wouldn't pure and unbiased reporting do the same? Are people too stupid that msnbc and abc needs to give them their opinion on what candidate to vote so they don't vote in a threat to democracy?

Trump won in 2016 when everyone said it was impossible , Trump almost won in 2020 in the middle of a pandemic and a controversial and poorly handled election that did raise questions. If the election wasn't handled poorly there wouldn't be questions and doubt. The spin was and is that Trump and conservatives just simply didn't accept the results but there is so much more than that.

I don't think its a dog fight between Kamala and Trump, I think its a dog fight between Trump and mainstream media. Imagine what would happen if biased reporting and spins disappeared, just the facts..... Would you feel as confident in Kamala being in a dead heat tie with Trump? Or would you say Kamala is extremely vulnerable without the threat to democracy rhetoric? Living in reality is questioning why all these news stations and newspapers side with a political party, this is third world $hit.....

Being too reasonable. Compassion isn't earned, but it's really hard for people to conjure up compassion when the beneficiary acts like such a terrible person. In my compassion, I'll forgive people who aren't able to overcome that hurdle to show him compassion. Trump doesn't deserve death, but it also isn't very far away for him. It's not really a tragedy when an old person dies -- that's how it is supposed to be. If his family hasn't already girded themselves for that day, they should because it's coming. We just don't want it to be an unnatural, violent death. Because on the third point, you're right: Trumpers are going to go nuts if Trump is assassinated. Even if the overwhelming majority of his political opposition want no violence, it just takes one armed guy with aberrant views and a lucky opportunity to paint half the country as murderers in the eyes of the other half. I wish more people would take the time to denounce the idea of political violence so there is no ambiguity that any such development is not welcome if it happens.

You know this whole thing could have been eliminated if that great Christian Donald J. Trump would have been in church on Sunday

Trump is no Gerald Ford - The Atlantic

No other president has used an assassination attempt to inflame American politics the way Donald Trump does.

    By Tom Nichols

Every American has the right to participate in public life without violence, and that includes Donald Trump. Personally, I think he probably belongs in jail, but that is a matter for the justice system. I also think he is easily the worst president in American history and one of the very worst people in our national life. But my feelings have no bearing on his rights or his safety. He is an American, and I want him to be treated fairly in court. He is my fellow citizen, and I want him to walk our streets without being in danger. He is a candidate for public office in the United States, and I want our government to ensure his safety—I am willing to be taxed to pay for his security.

If only Trump and his homunculus, J. D. Vance, cared as much about the safety of others as so many others care about theirs.
    ...

Trump, meanwhile, is turning the violence against him into fuel for more political hatred. In July, a young man—a loner with no obvious political agenda—tried to kill Trump in Pennsylvania, and almost did. And now another man is under arrest for a possible assassination attempt after being discovered near Trump’s golf course, apparently lying in wait for the former president. Once again, the suspect seems to be something of a weird loner who said on X that he voted for Trump in 2016 but in subsequent elections, according to federal campaign-finance records, began donating to Democrats. One might hope that these brushes with death would bring Trump a moment of reflection and, perhaps, even something like grace. But if Trump were capable of such a response, he wouldn’t be the man he is.

After the attack in July, Trump engaged in a self-indulgent ramble at the GOP convention, but he did not blame the Democrats; he left that for his surrogates in the party. This time, he’s not even bothering with any of that outsourcing and is instead using this latest incident to blame his political opponents, Joe Biden and Kamala Harris, for putting him in danger. He also blames the justice system and the charges brought against him—charges in multiple venues that have been filed in the name of the State of Georgia, the People of New York State, and the United States of America—for encouraging others to try to kill him.

He posted this today on Truth Social and X, and I offer it here verbatim and in its entirety:

The Rhetoric, Lies, as exemplified by the false statements made by Comrade Kamala Harris during the rigged and highly partisan ABC Debate, and all of the ridiculous lawsuits specifically designed to inflict damage on Joe’s, then Kamala’s, Political Opponent, ME, has taken politics in our Country to a whole new level of Hatred, Abuse, and Distrust. Because of this Communist Left Rhetoric, the bullets are flying, and it will only get worse! Allowing millions of people, from places unknown, to INVADE and take over our Country, is an unpardonable sin. OUR BORDERS MUST BE CLOSED, AND THE TERRORISTS, CRIMINALS, AND MENTALLY INSANE, IMMEDIATELY REMOVED FROM AMERICAN CITIES AND TOWNS, DEPORTED BACK TO THEIR COUNTIES OF ORIGIN. WE WANT PEOPLE TO COME INTO OUR COUNTRY, BUT THEY MUST LOVE OUR NATION, AND COME IN LEGALLY AND THROUGH A SYSTEM OF MERIT. THE WORLD IS LAUGHING AT US AS FOOLS, THEY ARE STEALING OUR JOBS AND OUR WEALTH. WE CANNOT LET THEM LAUGH ANY LONGER. MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!

In other words, Trump is blaming two possible attempts to kill him on pretty much anyone who isn’t an open partisan on his side, and that includes Biden, Harris, me, and millions of other Americans.

Self-awareness is not part of Trump’s personality: He is complaining about overheated rhetoric while constantly spewing such rhetoric himself. He has called Harris various names, and he refers to everyone else he doesn’t like as “vermin” and “scum” and other insults. (Today he called the sitting president and vice president of the United States “the enemy from within.”) Many of Trump’s political opponents and public critics have been the targets of plots and threats, including a pipe-bombing campaign. At this point, with two apparent plots against him foiled, a more thoughtful person would consider what he could do to help turn down the temperature in the nation. But again, Trump is not that kind of man.

America, however, has had such leaders. Many of Trump’s supporters on social media, afflicted with short memories and a lack of historical awareness, seem to believe that the attacks on Trump are unprecedented. Two assassination attempts in about two months is indeed horrifying, but it is not unprecedented: In 1975, President Gerald Ford survived two such attempts in fewer than three weeks. One assailant was a woman from West Virginia named Sara Jane Moore. The other was an acolyte of the murderer Charles Manson, Lynette “Squeaky” Fromme. Both of them came within feet of killing Ford.

Ford was a decent man and an underrated president, and he certainly had enemies, especially after pardoning Richard Nixon. (Moore was obsessed with the Vietnam War and thought that assassinating Ford would spark a violent national revolution.) But he did not blame his opponents for the attempts on his life. He did not blame America, or the courts, or anyone else. He also did not use the attacks by Moore and Fromme to fundraise: Trump used his attacks to beat the bushes for money within a few hours. Instead, Ford acceded to the Secret Service’s request that he start wearing a trench coat with a zip-in Kevlar vest. (It was very uncomfortable and he disliked wearing it.) He then went back out in public and conducted a presidential campaign, which he lost.

Trump doesn’t deserve to be the target of violence any more than his opponents do, even if his own rhetoric has inspired multiple threats against public figures—and, of course, a seditious riot. We are a better country, and a better people, than Trump, and every good American citizen should insist on his protection and his safety. But he and Vance seem unable to insist on ours—a fundamental duty of elected officials—and this makes them unfit to hold any American public office.

At this point, I wouldn't be surprised if a crazy MAGA will try a mass shooting at a Harris rally before the election. Harris will likely be fine, but there will be innocent casualties. I wonder what the narrative would be in that scenario. DonOLD/Vance should temper their rhetoric?

Additional history of assassination attempts or plots against political leaders in the U.S. Obama, Reagan, and Ford: None of them made a big deal out of the attempts or blamed the other political party. They also did not use these events to send out fundraising appeals.

    2015
: A white supremacist was convicted in a plot to kill Obama and was sentenced to over 25 years. Similar to 2014, the sentiment was that it was a horrible event, but there was no blaming, divisive rhetoric, or politicking.

    2014
: A man was sentenced to 25 years for attempting to assassinate Obama by firing shots at the White House. This event is largely forgotten because everyone agreed it was wrong, and no one blamed others. There was also no fundraising or divisive rhetoric from Obama or anyone else (though there might have been some in obscure corners).

    2008
: Three men affiliated with white supremacists plotted to assassinate Obama. All were charged and either pled guilty or were convicted on lesser charges related to drugs and firearms, serving between 6 months and 10 years. Again, there was no blaming, divisive rhetoric, or politicking.

    1981
: The well-known attempt on Reagan’s life left him seriously injured. He appeared before Congress a month after the attack to discuss the economy, thank the country for their good wishes, and move on. There was no blaming, divisive rhetoric, or politicking.

    1975
: Two assassination attempts on Ford occurred 17 days apart. Again, there was no blaming, divisive rhetoric, or politicking (see Nichols' article above).

I hope it doesn't happen. So far, the only person who got shot at/targeted was Trump, and sadly, innocent people died. Of course, leftists claimed the shooters are Republicans blablabla.

I don't recall the leadership of the Republican party at the time calling Obama "worse than Hitler and Mussolini", "a threat to democracy" or saying "he needs to be eliminated".

We need to separate what individuals say from what leaders say. There were plenty of horrible things thrown at Obama by individuals. Republican leaders painted Obama in a pretty bad light—typical stuff that you know well, as you use some of it today. But you’re missing the key difference and the main point. Whatever comments or politicking were directed at Obama (or Reagan, Ford), they did not use the assassination attempts on them to inflame tensions. Instead, they defused them.

It was a different political climate from BOTH sides. Despite disagreements on policies, it feels like there was more decency and mutual respect back then.

It definitely was, and that’s because we didn’t have leaders who incited violence, regardless of their differences or how they went after each other. (And they did go after each other, but there was a line they did not cross—incitement of violence or acceptance of it.) I’ve been saying this since 2016: leaders who incite violence will eventually lead to a nation where such behavior becomes more commonplace among the populace. It’s common sense—leaders influence the nation’s behaviors as well as its policies.
