That's not the average salary.

The major difference between decades ago and today is how many people per household are working full time jobs. Median household income has stayed about the same adjusted for inflation. But now it requires more than one person to reach that income per household.


Moms having to work full time is more about the fact that both parents need to generate an income to survive compared to decades ago more so than women empowerment or feminism.

Don't do that, you're old enough to remember. In the early 2000s you could of bought a house (an average/standard house, lets say 3 bedroom, around 1500 sq ft) in a Houston suburb, for 70k. That means your mortgage was about $580. Minimum wage back then was $5.25 (if I remember correctly). So two people working a minimum wage job were able to afford that payment, utilities n food. Now that same house is 200k+

 

Why would you need that to check out of this place for a while?

 

Economics always plays a part - people en masse will tolerate many evil or terrible things if they believe the politician is able to fix the economy and provide security - still, this isn’t the first or even 5th time the USA has had economic insecurity or a lack of positivity.

I have tried to explain to conservatives I am friends with that the comments, criminal behaviors and over reach by Trump isn’t good or funny because it sets a bad precedent. This time it’s Trump - it is just as likely next time it will be a radical leftist populist that will come into power and they won’t be laughing then.

Times change and in the times of economic concerns - the leaders the people turn to are often leftist - especially with the middle class struggling… at some point the Elon Musks, Jeff Bezos and Jamie Diamond’s of the world are no longer viewed as smart - but exploitative and then everyone will get to see what happens.

 

I might expand on this more later when I'm not pressed for time, but I simply want & need to focus on myself more.
