It is a tangent - but I have studied Nazi and German history for 30 years.
The dog whistles when Hitler and the Nazi party were growing - the dog whistles against Jews and boycotts were actually not popular with Germans and the boycotts largely did not work. Hitler actually backed off a lot of the public denouncements of Jews and started pushing economic issues that he claimed he could fix. Hitler came into power and did not address Jews or Catholics or Gypsies until his power was secure… he slowly turned up the heat over years and then Germany was more open to the treatment of Jews after being desensitized.

While I am not claiming the USA is headed towards early 20th century Germany- I do believe we as Americans are becoming desensitized and in some cases more accepting and tolerant of behavior and comments from the highest politicians that is divisive, classist, racist, misogynistic and false. Many of the things being said today by some politicians would not have been tolerated 12-16 years ago.

That really isn’t all on Trump - he just showed that a politician could succeed at the highest level while speaking and acting that way.

I also understand that many Republicans are strongly pro life, very much against the policies of Democrats so they cannot stomach voting for Biden or Harris…. My anger is at the GOP for their inability to replace Trump with someone that has conservative policy goals but isn’t a bigot or peddler or hate or a felon.

 

That won't be the reason why anything (if something was to happen), will happen in this country. Its because the middle class is getting erased, people are taxed to death n can't afford to live (somewhat comfortably anymore). You can only push 'em so much before they push back. I'm personally not, but lotta people are having trouble paying their bills. Can't afford rent or especially to buy a house etc.

20 years ago owning a house was basically a given for an average American family.

 

Those people are wage workers usually not small business owners.

People who own property are doing fine in America. It's the people who are wage workers that are feeling the effects of cost of living increase.
