Paying for the best reliability on the market. Their simplicity is probably a reason for their long lasting reputation. Less parts to go out on. I do agree they don’t have the creature comforts other makers do
That the thing. I AM a stay at home dad and have been since starting working from home full time 5 years ago. I do all that stuff you mention and more AND work a full time corporate job (albeit remote). I'm up at 7:30 every morning getting my boys ready for school, dropping them off and back for my daily staff meeting at 8:30. During the day, in addition to my full time job, I walking the dogs, doing laundry, mixing in some errands as needed, posting inane and tired jokes on CF, picking up boys from school, taking them to band practice twice a week, grocery shopping on Fridays (no meetings on Fridays) and prepping dinner every night. All while my wife is at school dealing with a-hole kids and idiot parents all day. I just don't think it's really that hard. Hell, I actually enjoy it. Getting to spend the extra time with my boys that I didn't get to back when I was working in the office full time has been awesome. If I can do it IN ADDITION to having a full time job, how hard can it be without one? Again, moms and dads who stay at home are honorable and have my absolute respect. All I'm saying it that it's not "the hardest job in the world" like some people say it is.
Your situation is an obvious outlier to a typical at home one, imo. I’m also not of the opinion that it’s the hardest job in the world, I’ve also been a full time at home dad, and I’ve also just started a hybrid schedule so I feel like I’m not typical either in that I’ve seen all sides of the coin. What I will say is that having a kid that’s not in school yet (or multiple kids) is much, much different than the situation you and I are in now. Having a flexible job is not a benefit afforded to many. Hell, even having a job something that pulls you out of the same daily routine is an obvious benefit to mental health. Some people are probably not getting the credit they deserve and react by exaggerating but I can say for sure after going through a couple of at home care I wouldn’t disrespect someone for pumping themselves up over this. It wasn’t easy for me anyway.
Sort of researching myself, midsize SUVs and the Highlander is one I’ve looked into. Cars are ridiculously expensive right now. Like Toyota 4 runners lol 40k??? Tellurides are really nice but even used on CarMax they’re still 30+. Pathfinders are kinda the cheapass model and even then a used one is still 20+ if it’s any kind of decent. I’m even starting to expand the search to 2 row SUVs and it’s the same thing. You can get some 120k mile vehicle for 18ish like man you want almost 20 grand for the absolute back half of a pathfinder? I’m not asking for a luxury car here I’m asking for a family ride that is reasonably priced. It’s just crazy.
Well, I was usually polite. Not always, but usually (sometimes they didn't want you to be). Always asked if she, whoever she was, was on the Pill. If she was, I never used protection. This was back in the '60's and '70's. No STD's that you couldn't cure with a shot, not that I ever needed one.
Dam dude, good for you. You never get the time back with the kids and that is a hell of a day, Kudos to you
Are you Hispanic? My wife and her family are all super loyal Toyota peeps and they’re Hispanic, it’s a thing. They’ve been effectively brainwashed. Again, they’re fine enough cars. Reliable. Etc. But **** warranties, **** interest rates, **** prices (comparatively), and the headlights thing drives me insane. Can’t tell you how many assholes I see driving at dusk or in the rain with no headlights, always a ****ing Toyota.
No, lol. I'm a firm believer in lights on while driving. My wife, however, is Hispanic and drives with them on half the time. But she has a Ford Explorer. I know I'm blowing your mind here.
