Degrom and Scherzer are back pitching this weekend… hard to say they’re not ‘trying’ when these guys have nothing to prove or gain from pitching this season, and yet they’re still working hard to come back and are going out there to pitch.

HOF resumes to stat pad. That being said DeGrom is essentially this era's Johann Santana, not enough longevity for my taste

Funny thing is that this lead this early was far more than last year's...

Thankfully, the White Sox are historically bad this year. Otherwise, the terribleness of the AL West would be a bigger story

After Grenkie, Sherzer, Verlander, and Kershaw all make the hall, the metrics for what counts as a HOF pitcher will have to change. Nobody is anywhere near a proper HoF trajectory amongst pitchers aside from Chris Sale if he can stay healthy for a few more years. Maybe Gerritt Cole but he just lost a year to injury, Aaron Nola is behind even him. DeGrom will make the hall just because of how hard it is for pitchers to throw innings these days.

Ain’t no way degrom makes the hof in my opinion.
He’s 36 and is a pitch away from injury every time he takes the mound.
How many full seasons has he had with 30 starts?
    it can’t be very many.

He threw the most innings over a 4 year period and was the best pitcher during that time. Even with the injuries, he is 18th in IP from 2014-2023, a solid decade, and is only behind Scherzer and Kershaw in pitching WAR over that period.

If the Hall of Fame is about greatness, he should be in it. If the Hall of Fame is about being heathy over a long period of time, maybe Kyle Gibsom should go to the Hall of Fame as he's 4th in IPs over that decade.

Every pitcher is a pitch away from injury every time he takes the mound.

But you still must have some accumulation to get in.

I imagine more closers in and fewer starters. The hall does not have an equal distribution for each position so there may be a drought of starters for a bit. Sale has been hurt too much it seems since his age 30 season, but his closer than I would have thought. He's not there yet. Cole's Pittsburgh seasons are good but not HOF-worthy, but he's far more along than Sale in getting there. Hard to believe he's been out of Houston for 5 years already. I just don't see DeGrom making it in unless he has 2 more healthy years. He's already 36 but only pitched in the bigs for 10 seasons.

Need a total of 6 Astro wins or Mariner losses between now and the start of the Mariner series in order to be able to clinch vs them in that series.

Astros 7 vs Angels, 3 vs Padres
Mariners 6 vs Rangers, 3 vs Yankees.

What a silly post. The HOF has always been about the combination of greatness and longevity. Gibsom has the longevity but he's a 1x All-Star with a career 4.50 ERA who's never finished anywhere near Top 10 in CYA.

As for Degrom, he likely makes it. I doubt there's any 2x CYA guys with 10-year careers and a 2.50 career ERA who haven't been inducted. Right now he's basically Sandy Koufax.

I was also gonna bring up Koufax. Although I think one difference is that Koufax pitched until he couldn’t anymore, whereas Degrom has been missing games for a big chunk of his career. I think Degrom gets in but a lot of fans perceive him as “injury prone” as opposed to Koufax who pitched consistently until he had to shut it down early.

I know they would’ve dealt with Koufax differently now. He pitched injured his last 2 seasons and his arm basically fell off and he retired.

In the end, Koufax only had 5 dominant years. His last 5.
