I thought it was pretty clear. Demeco prior to the draft. "We will be taking one of the 2 talented qbs."
Media didn't want to believe him.

I seriously doubt they would have taken Jalen Carter at #3.

So they bypass QB altogether? I thought the consensus among us was not to kick the can down the road? In this scenario who is our signal caller?

Ooof and knowing what we know now would you still be out on AR at pick 4? Trade down for ..... Will Levis!?!? Such a crazy domino to fall taking Bryce at 1 and watching him go down in flames. Glad thats not us.

The Texans were 100% going to take Bryce Young with the #2 pick if CJ was not available. It's just revisionist history to say otherwise at this point. And there's absolutely nothing wrong with that. What Bryce is becoming (and maybe has become) was something nobody predicted, AND it could probably be argued that he would NOT have become this had he been brought here. Slowik and Jerrod would have provided him with an offense that would have at least mitigated a lot of his weaknesses, and given him some easy reads. There's obviously a high likelihood that he would not have made it to his second contract here based on what we're seeing right now out of him, but I also don't think he would have been the flaming disaster he's been for Carolina either.

I still don't believe in AR. Saw too much of him at UF. He has flashy moments but not enough consistency. As a passer, he's so far behind the curve I don't see him ever catching up. If he ends up being a tough runner instead of being fragile, he could redefine the position. But first, I want to see him shake off a few more hard hits without being injured.

Bryce and CJ were the only two QBs in last year's draft I thought were worth a dime. Levis was a joke and I was glad when the TItans wasted a pick on him. Mel Kiper proved again he's not very bright.

Will Anderson at #2 and Jalen Carter at #9. Our 12th pick plus a day two pick would’ve been enough. It’s what Philly gave up.

Your position on AR is fair, but as of today he's probably the #2 QB prospect from that class even with all his warts. Everytime you see a Panthers fan make sure to thank them!

They were picking a QB in the 1RD of that draft. No ifs/ands/buts.

You think we take Bryce if CJ goes 1 - I think its safe to assume we do since nobody thought he would be as bad as he is on draft night even when there were some obvious red flags at the time. With the help of hindsight who would you select knowing Bryce busts and this team was not going to kick the QB position down the road?

I don't think Bryce would be as bad under this regime as in Carolina. But we did the same thing to David Carr as Carolina has done to Bryce.

That is exactly right. This is why having the #2 pick is always easier than the #1. There is way less pressure just taking the guy the team ahead you didn't take.

If you get the worse guy at #2, you can always say, "we'll if we had #1 we would've picked the other guy." But if the team ahead of you picks the wrong guy, they get the heat and you enjoy the spoils.

It's rare there are slam dunk #1s in any sport, the last slam dunk undisputed #1 in the NFL was who, Andrew Luck maybe? Having the #1 pick carries a ton of pressure, and if you get it wrong, whew boy.

I'm not so sure. I have a sneaking suspicion that draft pundits were heralding BY - but actual NFL personnel, once they saw him in person, were far less enthused about him. He isn't just small, he's historically small. And he doesn't do anything at an elite lvel to compensate for his size.

If the Texans loved CJ, and the Panthers took him... I'm very much Occam's razor: they LOVED Will Anderson. They tradedd a lot of draft capital to get him. I think he goes 2. And if that had happened, and the Cardinals take... the LT - imagine BY falling to the Colts??

I do agree team dynamics matter and Bryce Young may have fared better in a better organization. But he is so limited physically, I'm not sure Bill Walsh could've done anything with him.

Trevor Lawrence was the last slam dunk #1 and he has disappointed. He's not bad though

I believe the rumors about taking WAJ or Carter were based on CJ not being available and expecting a near equivalent prospect at 12. I also believe they had discussions with several teams about moving up to get the one they didn't get with 2..

But we both believe what we believe.
