It's really odd. You can listen to it at the very beginning of the episode. And I've explained it like 3 times to him.
I am curious... has everyone conveniently forgotten Ohtani's gambling and translator issues...? I find it incredibly naive if we think he is completely clean.
Every time Dana or Espada say "back of the baseball card" in one of their interviews, I assume they're getting marching orders and being told what do say to the public. It's like a code phrase for saying "Crane and Bagwell told me to tell you guys this".
It's one of the most fcking annoying things I hear from them. Everytime I hear it, I immediately dismissed everything else that comes out of their mouth and I just want them to get smack on the face.
Speaking of Bagwell, "back of the baseball card", and statements against use of metrics: I live in Washington state, so the sports talk radio is frequently about the Mariners. I haven't looked, but apparently Edgar Martinez, who is acting hitting coach for the Mariners made some comment against the value of exit velocity and mechanics? The hosts were losing their minds.
I read some local news stories and edited my post. Apparently, OB% IS something he is focusing on, I just misunderstood the blathering ( or they misunderstood Edgar) on the credit this morning. It's too much emphasis on exit velocity and thinking about mechanics during a PA that Edgar is trying to bury.
I wrote few weeks (couple?) ago that we been winning on pitching and when we win it's still going to be on pitching. Im really starting to doubt Espada and this team. I been pondering what is missing from this team but could't figure it out. Beside the obvious ofcourse lineups don't work, nobody walks, SP going so long it always looks as 1 too many innings, trying for DP records on offense, terrible defense, lack of hustle....on n on n o. Taking team at bats! Recognising pitches and fouling them off instead of trying desperately pound every pitch to ground if one can reach it. Looks fkin insane that guys look like they don't have 2min to waste on crucial at bat. Singleton in 3rd, no outs, runners 1st & 3rd, 2 first swings for the fences eyes closed. Those are not "let's pad the lead and win swings". Those are "I wanna play more and my name in tomorrows paper". And no one blinks an eye seeing this foolishness just repeating "good effort". We prob. don't have any sit.hitting or patience in box because Espada don't have gravitas to ask/order it. After yesterdays extras lose Espada should have taken fkin blowdryer to locker room and wake them up. Instead you can guess which team got waken up when Espada in post game interview yesterday did't see anything wrong or get worked about in Astros but talked down on A's "yeah they kinda bunt...what they do...hi ha hi" like Astros don't need to stoop that low. So frustrated that somehow regularly Astros manage to be less than their parts. Valdez will win tomorrows game by himself and everybody will patting themselves on back how they showed character and saved the series. Nothing changes.
yeah, that’s great you said it a few weeks ago. And you’re back now. Where were you when they came from 10 back to 5 up with the best record in baseball? There are problems. No team is perfect, but this facile “take them to the woodshed” / “they just want their name in the papers” stuff is ridiculous
