Wow! A Verdugo lover! I'd rather Meyers be up to the bat with a good lead because he caught the third out than Verdugo up to bat needing a hit to win because he let a couple of runs score.
He isn’t a good hitter - most the time he isn’t an average hitter, but he usually has a month or two where he is above average and it all evens out. He is one of those guys teams try to improve on, but he fields very well - and can hit well enough at times to be a nuisance. He is at worst a bench outfielder until he cannot field well anymore. He is in a good spot with the Astros because they get offense from catcher, so he isn’t as big a hit on offense. Ideally he would hit 9th. Melton and Matthews both are making a move - and perhaps at some point Meyers will be pushed aside, but this off season I expect 3rd, 1st and corner bat to be the priority. If the rumors or Christian Walker are true, and the Astros get a good enough 3rd baseman - then Meyers will be back in center and likely do the job again. Matthews can play a strong CF but he can also play 3rd and I expect that is where he ends up.
When Chas is hitting, he is better than Meyers and should be starting. Meyers is the better glove though.
If Chas gets back to being an .842 OPS guy, that’s a much bigger difference between the two than their defense.
He's not a good hitter at least at this point in his career. There are a lot of not a good hitters playing in the OF and very few, even those with cannons, that are close to Meyers defensively.
If they can't sign Bregman but can land Walker. Any chance they'll try to get Walker to recruit Suarez? But I guess it depends on Diamondbacks picking up his option. I wonder if they don't and take the buyout and they go after Bregman.
Suarez has outperformed that option value by a wide margin every year for the last 3 seasons; Arizona should definitely pick it up. One option would be to move Suarez to 1B to replace Walker and sign Bregman to play 3B. Of course they could also trade him or just keep him at 3B.
Episode 78 of breathing orange fire is up. We talk week that was, hat tip to Framber and Brown, is JV done and Astros best 9. Listen, rate, review share etc.
Don't forget Andrew not understanding why a game in the loss column is better than a game in the win column.
