I’m not sure Trump was trying to save them from a tough vote. He did in negotiations with Congress after the Parkland shooting express an interest in gun control. That was when he made his statement about taking guns away without due process. I think this was more a sign of that he didn’t really understand the issue or understand Congress including his own caucus. Republicans controlled both houses of Congress then and they had no interest in bringing up any legislation on firearms.

As stated architects are working on addressing school shootings but it’s not cheap and also many of the measures to deal with school shooting go against the educational mission of schools. I’ve been in meetings with teachers and other school officials where they simultaneously say they want schools that are safer but also more open. The problem is the best way to stop or slow down a school shooting is to make schools less open.

All of this is often on top of tight budgets where schools also want things like state of the art science labs and sports facilities.

And you’re absolutely right that schools aren’t the only place where children or people congregate. We have mass shootings at concerts, grocery stores, malls, and movie theaters. We can’t practically design to stop mass shootings in those places and even if we could no one would like the results.

I lied. I lied to my kids today in second period. I told them it was just a drill. I told them to get behind my couches (thank GOD I ditched desks and have bulky furniture!) and be quiet - the more quiet we are the faster the drill will end. I knew it was a lie. I knew this was what I always plan my furniture arrangement for every year. My kids were able to just hide and not panic for over 10 minutes, until we heard the banging on doors, walkie talkies, and yelling in the hallway. Then I had to come clean. My kids - and that’s what they are. Not just students. They are MY KIDS- were so brave. They still trusted me and did exactly what I asked. I felt so helpless. 18 of my kids. And all I could do was ask them to listen to me and to hide. It was the worst 20 minutes of my career. 18 kids. Depending on me. Anna somewhere in the building unable to get to me, or me to her. No idea what’s going on. More yelling, banging on doors. Finally the door is opening and we’re evacuated to the football field. Cops everywhere. Guns pointed at us as we leave. And still they do exactly what I ask. My kids. Frantically looking for Anna until I have her with me. All 19 of my kids safe. My planning paid off. Planning I wish I had never had to actually execute.

I’m sorry, but a damn 14 y/o having an “anti-trans agenda” is just so sad…the amount of brain rot at such a young age

at that age, he should be thinking about normal kid stuff…sports, cartoons, movies, music, video games, boyfriend or girlfriend, etc

    Racial stereotyping will help.

I appreciate the left being so righteous and perfect when it comes to school shootings. The right is solely to blame.

I agree the term white trash isn't helping anything, but I'm not sure the left put it forward here?

A relative of the family use the term, and the NY Post (motivated more by ad rev. than politics, I would suggest) made a poor decision to use it as click bait.

I haven't followed the thread recently, so apologies if I'm missing the larger context of the discussion.

Get mad at the NY Post then because it's basically a quote from the article.
