1. Altuve 2b 2. Diaz 1b 3. Tucker RF 4. Alvarez DH 5. Mathews 3B 6. Melton / Meyers CF 7. Caratini / Salazar C 8 Dezenzo / Whitcomb / Alvarez / Et.al LF 9. Pena SS
These are pretty much the guiding principles for long term success in baseball. Don’t sign any players in their late 30s Don’t trade away the farm Don’t give out huge contracts to star free agents
I do not see a path for Matthews to get more time in MLB than AAA next year, much less being a starter for the season. He is still very raw and was known to be a Long term project when he was drafted. He may get some time (equivalent to Whitcomb or Dezenzo this year) in Houston, but it also would not surprise me for him to be in the minors the entire season.
Agreed. Kid has played all of 100 games in the minors, and is striking out 33% of the time in AA. He's not ready for us to pencil in to the starting lineup in the majors next season. Much less assume he's going to be a star-level performer in his rookie season. He's likely in the minors all of next year, maybe a September callup if he has a good season.
Agreed! Signed, 2023 World Series Champion Rangers Yankees dynasty 20 years ago Red Sox mini dynasty 20 years ago Justin Verlander - Houston Astros
He is starting the season in the minors next season - Brown recently said so. How long Matthews is in the minors next year will depend on how well he plays next season. I say that because the tools are extremely loud and he has a chance to put up massive numbers in AAA if he improves pitch recognition even a little bit. His bat speed and wrists let him wait until the absolute last split second to swing and that is a massive advantage.
1. Agreed 2. What do you consider trading away the farm? 3. Depends on who you're talking about. But generally I agree. I'm in the trade for Robert or equivalent, even if the trade hurts.
Gotta find that 5th guy, even if it means making a trade that hurts the farm. How much of a risk are they willing to take?
Wow what a great game 1 v Arizona. Had to watch key moments also with D-Backs booth and hear them marvelling over Framber & Yordan made me c** in my pants again. Was pleasant to hear Framber's comments after the game where he realises aces need to be stoppers sometimes. I don't know it to be true but is it possible that he feels more comfortable being the clear number 1 ace now. No talk anymore who goes first here n there (prev. with Verlander) and who is most important. About contract talk. Framber extension would be amazing but might not be possible. The deals Phillies crazy owner gave to Wheeler & Nola and everybody banging the drum of "proven post season studs" somebody will give Framber insane money. This just me but I think this version of Framber is another level comp. to those two and as lefty his sinker n curve will play much better still in 5y time. Also his pitching is't as affected by possible lose of velocity coming years especially when we know he could throw it 98-99mph when he wants to, but just not as effective as the 91-95mph sinker. Can he lose the sinker like Holmes at Yankees(bad comp but u understand)? Framber's is much better and more unique as lefty and he also has other great pitches (mainly curve). I would want him extended as Im seeing him having fun on the mound like just playing catch in crucial game, but somebody will drive couple truckloads of bags to him and I really got no info is he "Crane guy" or not and how high would Crane go. If Crane feels pitching coaches can turn anybody around (Hunter, Spencer, Blanco, Kuikukikuikchu) he might not wanna pay.
The Stros sweep a good Royals team. Get swept by a mediocre Reds team and come back and put the hurt on the Dbacks. I guess this is baseball. Longtime Twins manager Tom Kelly would say in a season you’re going to win 50 games, you’re going to lose 50. What you with the rest is what really matters
Tony Larussa used to say something similar I think the exact quote was- 1 more bartender- I’m still ok to drive.
It's actually 60-60 and out of the last 42 the manager can make a difference in about 20 of those. Those 20 are the difference between making the playoffs and winning championships, or missing the playoffs all together.
Well Tom Kelly is damn lying. No damn way White Sox winning 50 games. Because of those bastards the Guardians are in 2nd place.
Astros 2024 entering today with bases loaded....126 plate appearances, 8 GIDP and .558 OPS.... (All other scenarios --> .720+ OPS)
