This both sides thing. This is how the right is so successful. They successfully convinced normal people there is a cabal of leftists who concentrates on pronoun policing. These are all manufactured culture wars from the right because the right is backed by a cabal of car dealership owners, tech bro VCs, oil and gas investors, real estate tycoons etc who would rather society think these are the issues that matter over cost of living, the fall of union participation rates etc.
We can do what Australia did, have a massive buy back program, and then license every single fire arm, every year with a tax to own and operate it, just like your car. We can ban things like bump stocks, large capacity magazines, and Assault style weapons, and put in background checks EVERYWHERE even if you are selling it on your own....create a Carfax like system that tracks guns. DD
From my professional experience - this isn't always the case, in most cases it isn't true. It depends on the inmate and what prison he is at.
You're missing the point. Of course the NRA is going to support Trump or any GOP candidate over Harris. When the GOP is in the minority party, they will block any legislation regarding gun reform. While Trump is 100x more closer to the NRA position than Harris, Trump is also very atypical. He cares about his ego, being loved by idiots and being respected by rich people. When mass shootings happen, as they will in our crazy world, Trump is more likely to take executive action (even though the Bump stock ban was to help avoid a tough vote) or pressure legislators to follow his side. He's requires extreme fealty and has very few, if any, principled positions. A normal GOP candidate would never pass gun legislation. I think Trump, while still unlikely, at least has a greater chance of doing than any other. See the prison reform bill. The only way Harris gets this done is with a super majority in the Senate or close to it.
There are definitely liberals that push for policies concerning transgendered people and what is and isn't acceptable. Is it a majority of liberals? No - but it is there, and the conservatives take it and run when they believe it is a good political issue for them. There is no doubt that money ultimately rules the day and corporations and PACS have entirely too much influence.
The Constitution is a suicide pact, according to Thomas and sometimes Alito. Gorsuch is actually one of the strongest advocates for due process rights in the entire court. He's pro gun and pro rights of the accused, mainly because he's not usually an issue guy. ACB is actually doing good work reining in extreme originalism when it gets too ridiculous. Kavanaugh is a modern everyone love me please judge, but often puts out the most reasonable methods to judge things. Bruen was the right outcome, but the worst framework ever. I blame the Chief for letting that happen.
Who? I'm an extremist. I watch, read and listen to leftist content. Policing pronouns is never a topic of discussion. Transgenderism is only a topic when it's in reference to leftists seeing patterns of targeted hate towards trans people from right wing propaganda outlets like think tanks, politicians, social media etc Who are these people that are wasting airspace, time etc trying to police pronouns?
Trump was also saving his party from a tough vote. The GOP will be in the same position the next time a mass shooter uses bump stocks on country music fans, and maybe they'll finally change.
School shootings are just "a fact of life" says man behind bulletproof glass and flanked by armed security detail
Don't know why but every time someone brings up prison on this forum I think of this unsavory fellow...
I disagree. Trump could have made all the necessary reforms when he was President and didn't. Democrats sure as hell wouldn't have blocked gun reform. It's the GOP. They are bribed and paid for to keep pushing guns. They boast about it, preach and support guns at NRA conventions, and show off touting AR-15's, and even post pics of their kids with them. They are disgustingly irresponsible, but the NRA pays them well to stay that way.
Trump is unpredictable, and it's hard to know what he'll do next. The only consistent factor is that if something benefits him personally, he'll probably go for it, and if it doesn’t, he won’t. After a tragic mass school shooting in Florida that killed 17 people in 2018, he seemed eager to push for gun reform but reversed course after meeting with NRA lobbyists, ultimately asking for and doing nothing (except for the bump stock EO in response to the 2017 Vegas shooting). My prediction: he won’t take any action on gun reform because it doesn’t serve his interests, and he’ll continue opposing it, as that benefits him through NRA support.
IMO, fortifying schools is a waste of money and creates a police state for our children that sucks for them ...and they don't even have a say in the matter. These same conservatives were concerned about child welfare to wear masks on one side of their mouth and want them to walk through metal detectors every day and do active shooter drills. That's terrifying. We have an emotional issue, not a public policy disagreement. The data is clear. More guns = more violence. Literally, it can't be more clear. So presenting data is pointless. We'll never fix this issue as long as conservatives feel that gun ownership, as a matter of personal freedom, is more important than public safety. Btw, are schools the only place children spend time? Are children also at movie theaters? At malls? At concerts? Walking down the street before/after school? Have you ever seen a school zone? Are children even the only ones at risk for mass shootings? It's a dumb argument to fortify schools as a fix for gun violence. We need to reject the whole argument that school shootings is an isolated thing and it needs to be fixed. The issue is mass shootings, at churches, at movie theaters, at concerts, at parades, and yes, at schools or anywhere else. Let's not get distracted this is a school thing. It's like looking at a problem through a toilet paper roll and ignoring everything else.
Dad looks like your typical lifted truck-driving, gun-owning, Trump-voting, yell at my kid's coach kind of douchebag. Spoiler
Sucks for the 14yo kid. That kid never had a chance in life cause his douchebag father corrupted him. This kid will be 60yo, still in jail, while his father will be long dead by then. ...and the father is the one that set up this whole thing. Never mind that the douchebag father was probably corrupted by the Fox News douchebag's that promote clickbait news to promote their advertising platform. Never mind Trump, whom ceases on all this so he can keep selling his NFTs and prop up his own ego. Vance said it's a "Fact of life". That "fact" is the life that conservatives have architected. If they want a different future, they are the leaders that can change it.
The more I learn about this kid and his shitty upbringing makes me madder at the parents, they failed and now 4 families have to pay the ultimate price not to mention the many who were injured and traumatized. The kid is 14 years old and CPS had been called several times and then the FBI interviews them and then the Dad goes and buys him an assault rifle................WTF was he thinking. I am not excusing anything, but this poor kid never had a chance, there are so many red flags, and I get you can't arrest someone if they haven't broken a law but as a parent you don't light the fuse either. And Mr Cuck cruz can shove his thoughts and prayers
I thank my father/mother, family, and that Chris Rock special featuring the toss salad guy for keeping me far away from crime.
Please avoid generalizing. This sounds like a family that struggled with rent, fell into drug problems, and experienced abuse not only toward the children but also between the adults. It’s the kind of household you wouldn’t want to see armed with an AR-15. Yet, as a society (and yes, this is characteristic of Republican policies), we invest so little in helping people while making it easy for them to access deadly weapons and harm others. (not sure why someone can afford an AR-15 as a present for their child but struggle to cover rent)
