What does it mean for Alex Bregman resigning? Will he get more, will the Astros pay him that much?

It means Bregman will get a 10 year 750 million dollar contract.

It also means your thread starting privileges will be revoked.

It sets the market, that's for sure.

    Spotrac has Chapman's market value as 4 / $107.3M and Alex's as 4 / $119.9M

Chapman signed for 2 years longer and 7% less AAV.

Chapman is a year older and having a great season 6.0 bWAR/4.5 fWAR) but hasn't had 4.5 in either since 2019.

The past 3 years the avg if his bWAR and fWAR = 4.5.

Bregman is a year younger and better. (4.6) but only slightly.

Based on Chapman's deal, I think Alex gets at least 6 yrs at slightly better than $25M AAV and possibly an extra year because of his age.

    He also has less competition

    Min: 6yrs / $162M
    Max: 8yrs / $200M
Sweet spot: 7yrs / $182 (which is Kris Bryant's deal that I have been referencing for 2 years when talking about this)

We need to deduct the cost of his new elbow

It means that Brice Mathews will be the Astros third baseman for the next several years.

Matthews may ultimately end up there but

    1) He is still a minimum of 1 season and probably 1 1/2+ away so there needs to be a stop gap for 2025 at least.

    2) The Astros are going to do everything they can to try and keep him up the middle. I think they would much rather have him spend the next 2 yrs in the minors and then eventually become Pena's replacement in 2028 or possibly 2027.

He is playing mostly 3rd at CC and will do so again in the Fall league. Additionally there really are no up the middle openings in his timeline. He is blocked by Pena and Altuve in the infield and by Meyers, Melton, and Gomez in the OF till 2028. He is not going to waste away in Sugar Land for three years. There are plenty of options to fill in at third till Mathews is under control for an extra year if necessary. He will come up in 25 out of Spring training if he is considered a ROY candidate. He will be up by mid season at the latest.

During his time at CC, he has played 25 games at SS, and 12 at 3B.

I pretty much agree with this.

Meyers should never be blocking a guy like Matthews.

What happens if Dezenzo or Whitcomb become the regular 3B?

After what we witnessed this year with the rookies. It should be a lesson learned. But it's not just the Astros. Almost all touted rookies sucked this year making it a trend. None have been ready bar Skenes. Sign Bregman. Continue the dynasty.

And for @what , Sam Phalen will be on Survivor. Eddie George's wife was on many years ago. So the Titans are getting solid representation.
