Spencer Arrighetti will be a really really good pitcher

Astros will win the division by 5+ games. The key now is winning 3 games vs KC. Tucker is set for Sept 9th.

Those prospects we kept will pay off in the future and helps offset all the ones we lost via trades.

Heyward might also be an upgrade. All we need is league average production on offense and a solid arm on defense.

They first changed his approach, told him that he was going to throw harder - and not worry about his control or how far he would go in games.

They then changed his delivery to maximize his velocity.

They then changed his pitch sequence.

After doing that he struggled some with walks and going late in games - usually a lot of walks in the minor leagues is a death sentence for a pitcher, but the Astros basically told him to keep working on it, and over the 3 or so years in the minors his control improved enough for him to be effective, and he kept the improved velocity.

He is still working on the control issue, but the longer he pitches - the better his control gets.

So basically, he went from a guy with decent command and control but meh stuff, to a guy with good stuff and improving control.

He bought into it - trusted the Astros pitching staff and it is paying off for him. He is very well liked by the coaches because of his hard work and he is a fierce competitor.

99% of pitchers say "pay me".

I don't know this guy well enough - but I have heard that money isn't as big a deal for him. I don't think he is going to leave a huge amount of money on the table elsewhere but he could accept a competitive offer.

This guy has always had high end ace stuff - and while he was a solid big leaguer, he was never as good as he should have been and it was a mystery why he gave up so much hard contact -- there is a chance he wants to see just how good he is capable of being working with an organization that can help him.

Hard to say what he actually gets - but I agree that he isn't taking half the highest offer just to stay with the Astros.

What was he like a 6th round draft choice? Yeah- those guys don't come up and dominate like this too terribly often.
If I was a pitcher I'd give the Astros a completely different signing bonus demand then I gave other teams. Someone did that a couple years back if I recall....

Yeah - 6th rounder and was on like 3-4 different college teams trying to get playing time. His coach told him to transfer from TCU because he wasn't going to ever play.

Now he is getting like 11K per 9 inning and is locked in. He reminds me of Javier in some ways. If he gets his walks down a little more, he can be a #2 starter or better.

Holding onto low level prospects = SMH, most prospects are there to be traded in order to help the MLB club. Would say Knorr (Who's Bielak at best) and say Rabel Colon. For Canha

What's the odds of a deal like this hurting the Stros in the present or the future?

I don't know the exact odds/percentage, but everything seems to be working out well. Prospects always have potential to be something, that's why teams request them, even low level guys. Yordan wasn't supposed to be anything, same as Yainer -- but look at them now. Between reacquiring JV, overpaying for Kikuchi, and trashcans snatching 2..... I'm glad we were able to save some potential while still attaining upgrades.

Dana probably knew average hitters would be available without trading assets.

Astros just need Tucker's return and to stop shooting themselves in the foot on defense -- and, of course, health (<---- same as any team).

Dynasty gonna Dynasty. Sit back and enjoy.

It would be a shame if the Stros didn't win/ missed the playoffs, or didn't get the number 2 seed because Dana chose to hold onto a couple of mid tier prospects.

That takes an injury to an active player who would then be out for the Postseason.

The Stros got somebody on the Postseason roster using that, a few years ago. It was a backup/PR guy iirc.

I don’t think so- I think any of the guys on the 60 day DL would count. If not though there are 13 about to be 14 pitchers on the active roster and you don’t carry that many in the playoffs typically. They can make a way for anyone in the org. Happens many times every year.

    OK.

Of course anyone on the 40 or 60 will count. We have established this multiple times.

For ****'s sake: the "only one in the org" caveat is, as I said:

A player who doesn't meet said criteria for postseason eligibility can still be added to a team's roster in the postseason via petition to the Commissioner's Office if the player was in the organization on Aug. 31 and is replacing someone who is on the injured list and has served the minimum amount of time required for activation. (For example, a player on the 10-day injured list who has been on it for at least 10 days, or a player who has been on the 60-day injured list for at least 60 days.) Players who are acquired in September or after are ineligible.

I’m aware. What I’m saying is that Javier, Lance and garcia are all eligible to be injury replacements under that scenario, we don’t have to disable someone new for that petition. So, it’s a complete non issue for us.

This one wasn’t great. Defense sucked behind him but still bad.

Yes, he was s!!t, the defense was s!!t, the bats are s!!t.

It's a non-issue because none of those 3 will pitch again this season.

As I said... this allows there to be an element of surprise.

I had a meeting, so missed first couple of innings. How did we let it get that bad in 2/3s?
