That's not really the dispute. Will he be good? Probably not based on his history, but it would be cool if he finally became a good player. The dispute is when at that point of the conversation his worshippers start lying about the past saying that he's been amazing... then making up excuses when people point out the fact that he's been terrible... then they go back to lying about his past performances. This cycle has continued for over 3 years now.
You know better, I've said countless times that I hope Jalen gets it together, his becoming a consistent star is the fastest path for this franchise to return to the post season. I've also said that I wouldn't give up on him, the "fix" is such a simple one - work on the shooting and it opens up literally everything else. For me, this discussion is more about his next contract than anything else. I don't believe he is worth $38.7m in year one of his next deal - unless he makes considerable progress this season. Even if he doesn't "break out" this year, I'd like to find a way to keep him around on a contract that buys the team another year or two of evaluation because he came into the league so young and had such poor coaching in that AAU garbage.
What in the holy f*ck are you talking about? You're mad at anyone who highlights any positive from last season. You call this polishing a turd and glossing over everything else. You're mad at anyone who tries to explain why he struggled at something. You call this excuses. So based on what exactly are you leaving the door open for Jalen to step up??? You're predicting a miracle and I'm the crazy one?? Commit to a prediction. If your position is just that you don't know, then you're just acting out on us for being more optimistic than you. F*cking ridiculous. The definition of trolling from the sidelines. I see where this is going. You're going to say I was lucky to predict it right. That's not gonna fly. What is Jalen going to do next season Mr Bottom Line?
It's Shrodinger's optimism. @AlperenSengun does this also. I think it's a mechanism to give the appearance of not being a hater. Downplay literally anything positive about Green and then when they see that the board is calling out their hate, they say something about how they are still optimistic about him. Which ya implies they think a miracle can happen. You can force them to say positive things about Jalen by just giving to them straight that Jalen has been a low efficiency player with bad advanced stats for the first three years so why would you be optimistic? Then see them repeat the same context we bring up. It's so weird. I don't get it. At least with @Corrosion , his only gripe is specifically shooting and acknowledges the improvements in other areas and acknowledges the context so he doesn't fall into this Shrodinger's optimism dellima. But these other dudes get so triggered when people being up context that might be taken into consideration that are part of the reason that I just can't see how they could even say they are optimistic. Like what would make you optimistic lol?
The numbers are superficial without context. The videos break down what Green is doing different. Add stats to back it up. Again, your mind is made up and either you are a paid shill that posts 500 times a day the same arguments. What you said in post 400 is the same in post 200. Pest....repeat....rinse. ....peat some more. Or you are psychotic.
Bro you've broken down his season into segments in order to diminish his highs and amplify his lows. Hard to take you serious in this "Hope Im Wrong" position. What an amateur talent evaluator/fan wants or thinks the team should do monetarily is just fluff. All anyone has to do in order to assess "value" is look at the ridiculous increase in league revenue and salary cap. These "busts" you guys feel are worth X amount are all going to be overpaid with that view. Look at the contracts being handed out to his contemporaries and then ask yourself how much more worthy are any of those guys? Efficiency is not the sole determining factor when handing out max level contracts if so players like Donte Divincenzo and Pat Connaughton would enjoy 9 figure salaries. Do you have a player that can take over a game one either side of the court? Do you have a guy that is impactful or borderline dominant on BOTH SIDES? That should be one of the most important aspects with these talks. Crying about a few missed shots per week is just chasing the wind when you put blinders on to any other perceived positive. All of us "cultists" have already stated time and time again that efficiency needs to ramp up. Decision making needs to be better. Vision and passing needs to improve. If none of that happens then the odds are Jalen is gone and we will be shopping for the next scorer to bend defenses and open up looks for the other guys on the team. It really is that simple. I think he can do it you guys think he cant. Will there be a middle ground? We will soon find out.
The context of his numbers are that he's in the bottom of the league in TS%, 3 point %, and FG%.... compared to his peers he's one of the worst shooters and one of the least efficient scorers in the league.... yet he has always chucked the most shot attempts on his team. Context makes it worse because it's the best shooting, most efficient the league has ever been. A propaganda highlight reel is effectively worthless.
Which I anticipated when we drafted him. As I said then.....we don't draft Jalen Green for what he is at 19......we are drafting the guy for what he will be at age 21/22. As he goes from teenage body to man. That's when he will begin ruling the NBA. I don't give a s#it about subpar stats during tanking years while waiting for him to get stronger. Before: Cluttered paint Shied away from contact Getting use to running pick-n-roll Understanding where teammates will be Learning defensive concepts Learning likes/dislikes of teams Learning likes/dislikes of opposing players Shoot a quantity of 3's Now Open lanes with addition of Reed, AJ Griffin and McVeigh Seeks contact and absorbs it better now Understands Pick and Roll (ball handler) Second year of Udoka offense Second year of Udoka defense Steel sharpens steel. The only way Green gets better at shooting 3's is vs live competition. I wish Sengun had been shooting 6 three's a game during those tanking years. Instead it's going to hurt us......him venturing into that territory when we are trying to win every game. Build confidence. If you played the Bruce Lee video.....Bruce was telling you not to be fixated on the finger, but see what is at the other end. Moon and stars. You are fixated too much on what Jalen was....not what he will be. Booker and Jalen Green have the same per-36 minutes stats the first 3 years. With exception of 3P%. But if Booker took as many 3's as Jalen, they might be equal in that stat as well. No opponent gives a crap about Garuba 40% from 3 on 1 lousy attempt per game. It's quantity that forces team to not pack the paint. Teams know they can overcome that one lousy made 3 during the game. It's it Jalen gets hot and no fear of shooting 8 three's a game that they fear.
He's already 22 and outside of an 8 game hot streak he was still one of the worst shooters in the league and one of the least efficient scorers in the league. It's WAY too late for you crazies to keep pretending he's 19. He's in the last season of his rookie contract, it's time for him to be the guy his cultists have pretended he is for years now or it's time for him to get gone if he's not a lot better than he's been his first 3 seasons
There are literally only 4 people that are driving this thread forward with said optimism... We all know that Green will get paid near max or max most likely by any bad team, (it is very probable) You are literally just rinse repeating the same stuff for 3-5 straight months......people are getting vexed for obvious reasons. That is not beating a dead horse but a field of dead horses. There is so much about the Rockets to talk about and Green is the least attractive one. But I get it....it keeps him interesting.....for some bizarre fetishist reason.
People say unhinged **** about Jalen Green and people defend Jalen Green. It's really that simple. If people make jokes about Jake. Green being traded bait for fringe players, or call him a "bust" ya people will defend him on a Houston Rockets message board. Why are you offended that a thread about a career active Rockets player having a thread that has engagement? And why do you sound like an AI chat bot all the time?
There are mentally ill people in this world. There are psychopaths as well. To repeat yourself this much about one man negatively on the internet is not just boredom and an indication of not having much of a life. I think mental illness is on the table. Go for it though. Repeat yourself another 1,000 times big dog.
Jalen fans upset that no matter how much they lie, there will always be normal people to fact check their disinformation.... no matter how much they cry about it when it happens. The only way to stop it is to stop lying.
The more you people say hater, the less it means anything. Shet only loses its sharpness......there are posters who think Green is just the dust in the street. Let him do the talking on the court! I do engage but I am more inclined to see what Corrosion is posting or bustamove is posting.....you just happened to be invisible but I do click the Reveal Button. I think you find him kinky for some reason, I do have a laugh or two about it.
And the most laughable stuff is the forth and back of calling hey kiddo.....well you are the kiddo, oh well, you kiddo. I am by far not a Bobby fan but I am actually glad that I am on the same side because I would not have laughed that much.....if I had to engage him as a Greenie. Players come and go, it really isn't that hard to cool off on them.
I disagree with this statement. At least some of the "cult" spent most of last year saying that efficiency didn't matter or three point shooting didn't matter. There have been times when people drummed that Jalen has high bball IQ. That doesn't jive with poor decision-making. (Also, I contend that having good judgment and decision-making would have led to him working harder on his three point shot.) And many "cultists" point to vision and passing as his strengths. There's optimism, realism, and pessimism. The "cultists" are optimistic. They look at three years of data and disregard it. First Jalen was mentioned with Kobe pre-draft. Then it became, "well he can do some things like Kobe" or "Kobe wasn't that good in his first three years." He's being compared to Kobe, a top 20 player of all time! (I hate Kobe BTW and won't put him in top 10, but that's beside the point.) Now it's toned down to, "he's like Ant and Booker at times." (I hate Booker, BTW. he's overrated.) No, he's not. Look at his stats. I know stats aren't what the cultists want to see but they are what coaches, players, and the league use to evaluate players. You can't just wish a player to be good and he becomes good. Jalen's 3 point shooting has stayed dead the same (actually slightly worse) over three years. I think Corrosion mentioned this. That three point shooting makes everything better if it improves. I would love Jalen as a 38% percent three point shooter. I could take the bad decisions and the not great defense. Shoot 38% from three and I'm a fan. But I don't think that happens for a season. It might happen for a month. That's realism. 36% next year might be good enough for me. But for Jalen to reach his potential he really needs to reach 38% at some point soon. I've heard excuses for Jalen's three point shooting and three years of data shows these all to be false. It's not the G league's fault. It's not Silas' fault. It's not Jalen getting the ball at the end of the shot clock. This was a myth perpetuated by a Jalen Only Fan and was absolutely ridiculous. All you have to do is watch a game and see. Jalen shoots threes whenever he wants and expects them to go in. They don't. One of the silliest notions is that it's Sengun's three point shooting that is to blame. There are only 7-8 big men that shoot threes well and there are a ton of good three point shooters in the league. Don't pass the buck, Jalen needs to improve and it's on him. The pessimists are Jalen haters. They are quick to point out anything Jalen does poorly. I think there are only a few pessimists. Most of the people who are critical of Jalen are realists who look at past performance and see Jalen as lacking. They want to see him improve but don't think he will. That's not bashing a player, it's giving their opinion. Jalen's driving ability is a strength if he makes good decisions and doesn't get stuffed. His FT drawing ability looked really good his second year but dropped off last year. His defense is better but it doesn't look "good" to me. He could be an average defender if he continues to work hard. Jalen is a pretty good rebounder.
