Ryan Hamilton is absolutely right that reproductive freedom isn’t just a women’s issue; it’s a men’s issue as well. It a husbands, brothers, fathers, and families issue.

My daughters are still young, so we have some time to consider our options. I discussed this issue with my relatives, and we all have daughters. Unfortunately, the statistics show that 1 in 5 pregnancies ends in miscarriage. We want what’s best for our daughters and their future families. We simply do not want to risk their well-being, and we are all considering moving out of Texas if these laws do not change. Many of my relatives are doctors themselves. Texas is no longer a family-friendly state, and these laws will drive away good people.

At least you have the means to move to a different state.

    Amiga,
Your thoughts are a true concern I would suspect with many in Texas. I'm not there anymore. Is Texas a straight up no abortion no way?
And if you had to travel to a state, i pray you never have to, that has abortion are there any close down there in the bible belt?

It's not so much about abortion; it's much more than that. Texas has both civil and criminal penalties that essentially make doctors fearful of providing medical care to pregnant patients who, unfortunately, have a miscarriage or face other unfortunate events and need "abortion" services. This unnecessarily puts women's lives at risk.

Personally, we opted out of genetic testings because we decided in advance that it wouldn’t matter. My kids may grow up with our beliefs as well, but that’s up to them. My personal beliefs are my own, and I do not impose them on anyone. I also strongly trust women and their families to make the best decisions for themselves. While those decisions may turn out to be wrong or regrettable later, it is not something the state should intervene in or criminalize.

    Well stated.
I count my lucky stars that:
1: My parents were up front about sex and contraception, and like Lanny P. Griffith used to say on KLOL, "Wrap that Rascal"

    2. My son was an easy pregnancy on my wife and happy and healthy. By easy I do not intend any woman to think what they have to endure for 9 months is EASY.

We have been fortunate and do have the means to move. It is not easy to uproot and relocate elsewhere. I like it here—the people, our hundreds of friends and family, and the communities.

Maternal mortality on the rise in Texas
Exclusive analysis finds the rate of maternal deaths in Texas increased 56% from 2019 to 2022, compared with just 11% nationwide during the same time period.

The group working with RFK Jr's anti-vac advocacy has played a part in the death of dozens of children in Samoa, and now the lawmakers of Texas have played a part in killing multiple women with their abortion bans. It's amazing how quickly things are deteriorating.

I agree. Just uprooting yourself and moving isn't easy. You move away from family, friends, employers, neighborhoods, churches, communities -- it's a big ask. But when kids graduate high school and go off to college (as kids in my social class do) they're making that sacrifice anyway. Which is why as my children graduate, I encourage them to not apply to any school in Texas but to pick a part of the country or world that they might actually want to live in and apply there. They are 7th generation Texans, and I hope the last Texans in my branch of the family. Because even if the abortion laws somehow change, we still will have all the other dumb laws, the leadership that passed them, and the electorate that voted for them. I'll stay in Texas and fight for the change, but there's no reason my kids need to put up with that nonsense any longer when they can just go somewhere that already shares their values. They can probably get better weather too.

Pro-Lifers should care about both, right?

Pro-Lifers decidedly do not care about both. Maybe they should change their moniker to "Pro Forced Birthing*". "Pro Forced Birthing" does not roll off the tongue ... and maybe indicates something more sinister.

    * the exception being that those who can afford to fly the would-be baby momma to a locale where abortion is legal can do so

birthing is the natural state of things. being pro-life means pro-birth.

Forced Birthing is a made up term.

How does the 5 of 10 fertilized eggs that do not attach to uterine wall get birthed?
How does the 1 of 10 fertilized eggs that miscarry get birthed?
How does the 14 of 1000 fertilized eggs that are stillborn get birthed?

Death appears to be the most probable state of "birthing", no?

miscarriage/stillborn infants, which are tragic, are part of nature. Abortion is not.

it's really not that hard to understand.
