    We are outsiders looking in.
Just my opinion, but I think Israel government is less concerned with negotiating to get hostages back. They are about permanently eliminating the Palestinian threat to its people.
    Which I suspect is impossible

Do they know how many hostages are even alive?

I do know, if my family was wiped out in October I would have a tough time separating personal feelings from wanted cease fire talks.

But I am not an elected official who's job it is to separate the two.

It's about priorities. Some here think it's impossible to get the hostages back, but that ignores historical facts that said otherwise.

I believe there are still over 100 hostages (haven't check recently, so could be off), though it's unclear how many are still alive. But I would say this: IIRC, even before the first hostages were released, some were saying it wouldn't happen or that they were already dead. They were wrong then, and those who make that assumption now are putting these hostages and their families in grave moral danger.

The majority of Israelis want a deal to secure the safe release of the hostages. When asked directly, they prioritize that over military action to wipe out Hamas—likely because they understand that goal is impossible. I think those voices speak louder than anyone else looking from the outside in.

    Horrible.

From what I’m hearing is that the hostages were executed when Israel entered Rafah and got close. It sounds like this was a rescue operation that failed.

For all of y’all saying Israel was held back from entering Rafah what’s to say that Hamas wouldn’t have executed the hostages earlier? Also given that Israel has continued to carry attacks on Rafah and other spots in Gaza even while Biden and others have called for restraint it doesn’t look like there was or is much leverage from Biden that would’ve prevented the IDF from going into Rafah earlier.

The IDF went in and Hamas killed the hostages. They would have done the same thing 6 months ago, 3 months ago, or 2 days ago. Why won't Bibi negotiate a deal?

The crappy thing is that supposedly some of these hostages were the next in line to be released had their been an agreement.

    This whole situation sucks.

It’s terrible. From the beginning I was very pessimistic about the chances of the hostages surviving. I was happy to be wrong when several were released in deals and a few rescued. I did fear that the hostages would either be killed in indiscriminate IDF bombing and raids, a few were killed that way, and that Hamas would kill them when the IDF got close which happened to those six.

I really feel terrible for these families.

They went. When they showed up Hamas killed the hostages. Sounds like Kamala was right. Why won't Bibi negotiate a deal?
