People need to stop believing RFK when he says he's being misrepresented. He is such a conspiracy nutcase and has been partly responsible for a large number of deaths through his anti-vax work.
Politicians sometimes have a hard time owning up to what they said. If you said it, just own up to it. If you no longer believe your previous statements, then issue clarifications why you no longer believe it. Everyone is always so critical of individuals flip flopping on issues as if that is not possible to do. I've changed over the years and I've changed a lot of my positions from when I was younger. I change with the world and by becoming more knowledgeable. Just be accountable for why you change. I don't care if Kamala changes. I don't care if Trump changes. Just explain yourself and own it.
“A foolish consistency is the hobgoblin of little minds” Emerson. I agree sticking to positions and arguments in the face of changing facts and contexts isn’t always good and can be dangerous in leadership. I agree you can change positions but you should be able to explain why. For example I felt that both Harris and Walz were rather evasive in their interview when pressed on why they changed position. In the other side we see Trump just deny he had a previous position or even said something. Consistency though in thought and principle should be important and while being completely rigid and inflexible in thought is bad just abandoning principle because it is inconvenient is as dangerous or worse. Too often we see that in our politics.
I appreciate politicians who can adapt when presented with new, valid information. If they can explain it well, even better. But the flip-flop political attacks by Bush Jr. against John Kerry were so effective that they've made it nearly impossible for politicians to take nuanced positions in public—not because they can't explain them, but because if they aren’t careful with their words, those words will inevitably become sound bites for attack ads. As @rocketsjudoka points out, Trump often wouldn't even acknowledge and simply deny facts. This goes far beyond what we see with typical politicians.
