I mean, I guess in the end it's a good thing to split with one of the best teams in baseball at their place...but this really should have been a 4 game sweep with the entire league talking about how the Astros are "back." The good thing is that both of our wins were televised nationally.
The Orioles were one of the best teams but crucial injuries, specifically to their pitching staff, have made them quite average. Plus they lost Westburg and Mateo.
In the 2018 Pennant Series, Tony Kemp had a similar catch that resulted in collision with the left field wall, though he wasn't knocked out
It is hard to imagine that Doobie didn't hit his head on the padded wall. I watched the replay so many times, I can't explain how he avoided hitting his head on the wall. 95% of MLB players would of just let that be a double.
He shouldn’t be on the team if his role is beyond a left handed pinch hit option off the bench and giving another 1B an occasional day off. Most of the other issues the Astros have had this season were unpredictable/ significant outliers. The 1B situation was predictable before the season and not addressed.
A 100 star catch. That was one of the least selfish plays I have ever seen. He still belongs on the bench, but the guy has heart.
Hindsight 20/20 (and I often say 90% of dives are unnecessary), but if there was ever a time to dive, that was it. Diving helps to quickly slow your momentum. If Dubie saw the replay, he prob would've dove -- but again, hindsight 20/20. It was an absolutely tough play. Better than 5 stars
He has improved out there with more playing time. His defensive metrics grade out really well this season, where he has played almost entirely in the OF, and his arm strength actually makes runners pause before taking an extra 90 unlike Chas/Meyers.
It would never be in his head to dive while making that play. It's all or nothing on the run...with momentum. He's not risking the header, sliding into the bottom of the wall.
