He's utterly unplayable. They can't put him out there anymore if they're serious about winning games.

Partially. Since he signed the extension earlier, he has already been partially getting his "bag" the last two years (over $30 million a year), in addition not having to sweat out any arbitration BS or worry about what an injury in 2020 or 2021 would have done to his potential earning potential.

Just like the Altuve and Alvarez deals... this extension was also a win for the Astros/Crane. Instead of him being a FA after 2022, the Astros have had two more years at market rate, have continued to be in contention, and have the inside track to match any possible further deal out there.

Bregman's camp also knows the market. They know that Chapman had to settle for a 1 year deal last year (and he'll be in line to get just as much, if not more, than Breggy going forward). Not sure what Arizona's situation is, but I do believe there was mutual interest there once upon a time.

Yeah, Whitcomb has looked really good so far. He needs more playing time.

He's a Boras client that has never shown he would ever take less than market value unlike Altuve.

Great win last night, I have been out of pocket the last few days but WTH to Breggy playing 3rd....up until late last week he was not going to play 3rd the rest of the year

Chaz has to go reset, he is lost plus the new kids are not playing bad at all

(Altuve also a Boras client... and Altuve has been getting market rate for the last 7 years and will continue to get market rate for the next 5).

And yes, that's the point... he's been getting market value this year and last year. He's going to want to continue to do so, but the market is the market. Chapman (also a Boras client) was in this exact same position a year ago... and is now continuing to be in the exact same position after a 1 year deal (just 1 year older).

But he's also had a better season than Bregman to this point. Bregman has the post-season experience and that does carry some weight amongst contending teams that may be in the market, and you would presume the Bregman's want to continue to play in the post-season as he know nothing else. (Again, Arizona seems to be a possibility... and there's always NY).

He let it "slip" in the post-game interview that his elbow "had to be drained" after the TB series.

The only thing that can probably set off the inflammation is making long throws from 3B. The "gremlins" they're referring to are likely bone spurs/fragments. Its not a joint/bone/ligament issue... its just a matter of not aggravating it in a way where the swelling comes back, requires another drainage, and he's presumably out for 2-3 games (at least) whenever that would happen again.

For all the grumbles about Bregman, he is back on pace for a 4 WAR season and if he keeps hitting he will inch closer to the 4.5 WAR like he has had each of the last two seasons...

Until he shows some sign that he shouldn’t, Shay Whitcomb should be in the lineup every game. His underlying numbers point to the possibility of him being an elite hitter; his exit velos are on par with career marks of guys like Jose Abreu and Kyle Tucker.

I dont think they're going to be able to keep Tucker and if that's the case I would offer Bregs 7 years 210 mil. Keep the infield together. Add an OF and a 1B in the offseason. Right now I would be happy with a platoon of Gamel and Whitcomb in LF next year.

Underwhelming. That seems like we are scared of life without Bregman. Of course, he’s not easily replaceable, but if we have to run Gamel out there because of it then no.

I really feel like the Astros need to pick up 2 big bats this offseason and an innings eater. We all know Bregman is taking off. We still want to come out of losing Alex with a net gain or at least break even.

Why can't the pick up be Bregman himself?

    Question.
Does Tucker need to be activated before Sept. 1 to be on the playoff roster?
