He makes them work as hard as he does. There's no F'ing off in Mac's world. He also pays them well. This is why he's a successful businessman. I know this isn't popular in today's world. But hard work will make you successful in your career.
That's what you call being in control of your inner-state, my fellow Astrodelic Psychenauts! Expectation begets disappointment. Disappointment begets pushed buttons. Pushed buttons beget insecurity. Insecurity begets expectation. Expectation begets disappointment. ...
You see it if you go in and look at him run the place for 15 minutes. In his defense I saw him yell at employees twice and both times it was because they weren’t helping customers. I’m ok with that.
His daughter spoke at our church one day. She didn’t present like an unloved child. Said her dad walked through hell and back with her and was a great man.
I knew him pretty well back then. Well. From a business standpoint anyway. He's a hard worker and expects that from everyone else. He's a master at self promotion and not always the nicest guy in the world. I don't think he's a bad person, per se, but he's certainly no angel either. Having said that, the best seats I've EVER had for an Astros game were his. I got to see how the other half lives, and it was ****ING AWESOME!
My dad tore into me a few times in the 80s too. Still think he was the best dad ever though. Tearing into your kids isn't inherently a bad thing
About Bregman coming free agent I would take same aproach Crane did with Verlander going to Mets. Tell him go get the bag but ask nicely to come back what he got. Rumors were that Astros we willing to go 35m/1y for Verlander. Multiple years over 40m too much even with Crane loving Verlander. Best chance to keep Bregman ofcourse if he don't get what he think he deserves and Boras asking for the moon and market staying quiet like prev.year. Breggy being buthurt and signing some Chapman like pillow contract with us and we can still compete 2025 legit. He might even go off 1 time from the start of the season trying to prove everybody wrong. As for lenght, 4 years would be optimum(he will not do it without opt outs) and max 6 years. I can support keeping Altuve till retirement. He has been booed for years and still produced, Crane made sure this is his home and no need to worry how he would be accepted elsewhere. Ofcourse at the end it will be looking bad but so is every extentension after 32y. players.
I don't know how much longer we can do this with Chaz. The idea of demoting a guy who has done so much over the last 3 seasons sucks, but he's an absolute zero right now. Maybe just a week or 2 to reset in Sugar Land will have something click. In his last 109 PA he is hitting .143 with 1, yes just 1, extra base hit. Whitcomb and Dezenzo should both be getting his AB's, they at least show some sign of life. Hell Whitcomb has been outright good.
Its interesting. I think the Astros can certainly retain him if they want. I would only let him walk if it means resigning Tucker is a certainty. Breg has had a chance to see Springer and Correa leave and have absolutely zero post season success. All Bregman has done since his rookie year is play in the ALCS/WS every year lol. That is most likely gone effective immediately if he signs with another team. My other thought is... The baseball season for the Astros has been 9 months long every year. Maybe after all the success and accolades, these guys are happy to get there bag and get an extra month off a year.
Bregman wants his bag. Every player wants their bag. Money and contracts is another reason way for players to keep score.
