I think small streaks in an overall bad season won't cut it, I also think he has to pretty clearly have a good season or he's gone. I don't think he's a guy they'll keep if he's still looking like a bench player. I think he needs to play next season as a good starting caliber player to stick around.
I also think even if he does have a bad season some desperate team will sign him to 25-30m to sell tickets/kick the tires. But he for sure will not be here, especially if Reed plays well.
Agreed, no matter what, someone will see him and say "I can fix him". I was only talking about the situation here. If we had fewer guys who are more talented that need to get paid soon, it might be different.
LoL no bro it won't ease a lot of concerns. It will only ease one concern and humans are infinitely adaptable. Cynics will find a problem when he has an off night or if he has 2-3 low efficiency games in a row which happens to every young star. Even if he has a whole good full season, I will bet you anything there will be people who will say "fool's gold" or "he just doesn't have it".
That's ridiculous if he has a full good season, there is no reason to say that, it's said now because 70% of the time he isn't good.
Nah, that's not why it's said. That's just part of the reason. Think about it logically. Every season there are 1 or 2 players that get this treatment from the board. There's no logical reason it would never be 0 or 3 or 4 players. That's a pattern. We're shuffling players all the time but the pattern sticks. What that means is the amount of shitposting is barely correlated to performance. Does it mean they're always wrong? Of course not. We'll get one right sometimes. The point here is you keep alluding to what people on this board think as a population. We're not a logical population. You're taking the most information from the least logical data. You forget we had a guy putting up 36 and 7 one year and the board thought he's the problem instead of thinking "we need just one non-declining star to pair with this guy". I can tell you right now exactly which posters won't trust Green even after a full good season. Everyone knows them. They'll still be gossiping about nail polish in 2026.
As usual most lists like this only look at one side of the floor. But if that is the list for the best SG’s we are in an extreme down era for SG’s.
I promise you if Jalen plays well you're going to see a lot of "Good job Jalen let's just hope he can keep this up." Which isn't unwarranted right?
Yes. That would be a rational thought, but the Jalenists will call them out relentlessly. I’m already shaking at the retribution from Rocketchamp!
I think the league is going to do their WWE thing here with Green this season, the main guys they brought to the Olympics are aging it is time to pass the torch, and this last draft is supposedly weak so no super stars to drive growth. I think that means they are going to try to will Jalen Green into becoming a star. he may get the benefit of calls this season. This is kind of it for him, last year of his rookie contract he needs it, the Rockets need it, and the league really needs it. Another Anthony Edwards or Ja Morant type player would help the league a lot. After losing harden and going through some very rough years, I can see the league trying to help a fairly large market team out here. It comes down to money, and it only makes sense to give the Rockets a chance as they have been patient. Jalen has a ridiculous number of fans for someone who has not lived up to expectations. There are a lot of casuals who think Jalen is a star already, and I think him being successful will put fans in seats on road games as well. It ultimately will be up to him, the league can not completely fix things, he has to do his part, but it feels like he may get an opportunity this year. Steven Adams essentially willed Westbrook into super stardom with the help of the league and Nike Marketing, hopefully he can do the same for Jalen.
"Just hope he can keep this up" haha Yes I'm sure a lot of people will say that for months and as soon as there's a natural dip, they will shift to: I KNEW IT!!! Then we he swings back to good performances, they will be like: oops, but hope he keeps this up. Repeat cycle. As of last season just before Green went on his "streak", 70-80% of the board had not given up on him being a star. The Jaters are a cynical subset of the remaining 20% of the board. Most people believe in Jalen and won't be filled with insecurity when Jalen performs. Those peeps will be what they are no matter what. If the HC believing in Green turning the corner is not enough to slightly alleviate concerns, it means they are closed to new information.
Jalen averaging 26+, Alperen averages 22-10-7… Rockets win 50 games… Everyone shuts the F up. Let’s ****ing go this year boys. Amen+Tari+Vets are bringing a top 10 defense. Need Alperen to make one more leap, and we need JG to wake the F up to his own talent. I am pumped.
