Nope. He's not referring to stay at home mothers. He's referring the culture wars social media clout chasing phenomenon of "trad wives". Most of them don't have any children and are basically IG models.

No... "Trad wife" is a term used to refer to the social media clout chasing culture wars phenomenon. Have you seen these accounts. Almost none of them even have children and talk about servicing their men. It's an act.

Some are - some are not. A lot of women use the term to mean a wide spectrum.

Google has tools to show how fake that term is. It wasn't in our vernacular until like a year ago. It mainly refers to the social media grift. Not actual stay at home mothers.

"trad wife" is another example of the right wing misrepresenting leftist views in bad fairh to form an outrage culture and make themselves feel like victims.

So can we put this inside to rest and just admit it's just the right wing trying to play victim again?

The right wing wins when normal people "both sides" these things.

That is a narrow sub-set on social media and doesn't represent the majority of trade wives or at a minimum all of them. The term trad wife is very broad, and in places like Chicago, it doesn't have much to do with social media clout or cultural wars.

It also is certainly work - my wife, even before she gave birth to my son was a trad wife and she constantly was doing things and taking care of things - the idea that they don't do anything is simply not true based on the women I know that call themselves trad wives.

Your wife wasnt a social media influencer. And the social media grift goes hand in hand with right wing propaganda backed by powerful men unlike these supposed feminist bloggers against stay at home mothers(I never encountered them but I'm sure by the laws of nature one must exist somewhere).

The social media fad is a propaganda push.

This is a pure semantics issue. You know this so I don't know why are you trying to act like someone here is putting down your wife for being a stay at home mother. No one here is. We are discussing the social media grift of "trad wife" where right wing IG models looking women dress up in slutty sundresses talking about how to best service their man who don't have kids.

Not a single human here is putting down the concept of raising children. That is hard work. It's one of the hardest things a human can do that requires immense responsibility.

So from here on when we say "trad wife" we are referring to the culture war social media grift, not sincere stay at home mothers. Okay?

We don't have to both sides everything.

The term trad wife has been somewhat common for 5+ years in social media and has been used by women for at least 20 years. It used to just be traditional wife. Some women have adopted the term as short for traditional wife and there are plenty of accounts out there they refer to themselves as trad wives and they have children, have never modeled - many of them live on homesteads or in the suburbs. I have met some of them. The only real consistent theme is that they all have a spouse that financially contributes. in a few cases they have two or more spouses that work.

There are certainly religious and conservative social media people that use the term as well - but they are not the only ones.

I feel like there are 2 conversations running. Which might speak to how personal it is to everybody.

Dude, what are you doing? Yes the term is a culture wars thing. The people who are on social media doing this are pushing a narrative that this lifestyle "is under attack" by leftists. That is the point of this term becoming a culture wars topic.

The irony is the only avenue this lifestyle is under attack from is through the avenue of cost of living and forcing both partners in a relationship having to generate income to meet basic expenses. That's the irony of all this.

I never heard the term "trad wife" until a few years ago. Everyone I know just referred to themselves as a stay at home mom.

I don't think anyone is putting down my wife - no one here knows my wife, or what she does or does not do.

I do think that people - or some people do not understand the term or who uses it.

Just like not all feminists want to put men in work camps - not all women that identify as trad wives are conservative or religious or are pigeonholed into a particular political belief system.

Also - why do you think that you get to gatekeep the term "trad wife"? Are you married? Are you married to someone that refers to herself as a trad wife? Do you know several women that identify as trad wives?

If we substituted the term "feminist" and some one said to you - "So from here on when we say feminist me are referring to those extremists on social media that want to separate from men, and not since women that want equality. Okay?" - you would rightfully point out that isn't accurate or fair.

You are definitely making it seem like people are putting down your wife here dude.

Not a single person here has any issues with stay at home mothers. We have issues with the bad faith framing of an alleged existence of a cabal of people trying to downplay the role of motherhood and creating outrage bait online around that narrative.

"Trad wife" is a culture wars term at this point. Blame those people, not me.

I don't know why you care so much for this term? It's semantics at this point? No one disagrees on the underlying moral philosophy here.

Also why does a carrying stay at home mom have to be traditional? It buys into the right wing narrative that progressives don't like hard working moms because progressives don't like "traditional". All you are doing is playing into right wing propaganda by doing this.

If you know no one has issues here with stay at home moms then the implication here is that you really really are just offended people think the term "read wife" is just a culture wars term. It is. Normal people don't use that term. People usually just use "home makers" or "housewife" or "stay at home mothers".

None of those terms have the culture wars brain rot baggage he hind it.

My wife? No - no one here knows my wife. Not understanding the term trad wife or men gatekeeping the term? Yes -

Yeah - that isn't what many women mean when they refer to themselves as trad wives. Also, being a trad wife is more than just being a stay at home mother, as you do not need to have children to be a trad wife.

I'll point out that the term is used by women to mean more than a "culture war" term whenever I hear or read someone misidentify it - that includes you.

I care for term because I am tired of terms being hijacked for political or religious reasons - the word "woke" is another example of a term. Words have meanings and those meanings are important.

You are projecting - who said ANYTHING about a caring stay at home mom HAVING to be traditional? First, the term is "trad" for traditional, because they are women that loosely fill the traditional roles that wives filled traditionally. While there are some judgmental trad wives, there are many that do not judge other women - it is an individual decision.

Again - trad wives don't all have children. If women choose to use the term term "trad wife" or "homemaker" or "stay at home spouse", that is their right. For some women, they like the term trad wife because it is something that they find empowering or they use it as an identifier for women that isn't as limiting as housewife or stay at home wife.

Don't gate keep the term - it isn't even really your term to gate keep - as a single male.

I have said my peace on the topic - just don't fall into the same gate keeping hole that extremists fall into on other topics and terms.

I don’t have social media so I haven’t seen any of it first hand but I’ve heard about things through family members talking about

Are you talking about women who portray the Andrew Tate or “alpha male” idealized version of a women, who is basically acting like a slave?

This is so vapid dude. You are calling people who think the social media fad of "trad wife" as cringe as an extremist narrative.

This ignores the underlying agreement in the basic moral principles of motherhood we all agree on

You are being extremist here by believing there exist people who downplay motherhood.

And yes "trad wife" is a political term that everyone here agrees with besides you. It is a term that inherently tries to frame progressive values as anti-motherhood.

Absolutely. YouTube search "trad wife". It's all political. All the top search results are IG models looking 20 year olds in sundresses putting on make up and waxing lyrical about how their life ambition is servicing their man and how progressives are trying to ruin it.
