Great thing about dumping social media is I never even hear about this ****. Probably not at all related, but maybe it is: it's crazy to me when someone moves to a great neighborhood with high property taxes and top-notch schools, but then chooses to home school their kids. Just seems like a massive waste of money. I don't get it. But I see that quite a bit.
No one but fringe bloggers look down on housewives. Some of the most powerful humans on the planet do not like women who have the agency to not be trad wives. One end of the spectrum is just content used to outrage conservatives online with their social media algorithms just finding fringe content from humans with no clout and the other end of the spectrum is backed by some of the most powerful traditional institutions on the planet from evangelical hierarchal communities to conservative Islamic communities to whatever the **** JD Vance and Peter Theil believes.
Nah. Not the same. Different thing entirely, IMO. That said...... I find myself being on CF less as time goes on and being happier for it.
My mom was a Trad wife growing up and for her at least motivations that lead to decisions had a lot of fear based in her lifestyle. Fear is what drives her politics and evangelical ideology as well. That being said you never want to judge every women (or husband for that matter) the same and I’m sure many women end up as a “trad wife” by circumstance. For me personally circumstances of my wife’s job has led to me making decisions in my career that allow me to work from home and take care of many of the “trad wife” responsibilities such as doing laundry, picking my kid up from school, etc. even though I make nearly triple what my wife makes since she’s a Texas teacher, her passion for her job has led to me maybe making a little less, and taking some sacrifices in my professional career ambitions because I can’t bring myself to force her out of her incredibly demanding career of being a teacher and theatre director which requires her to be at the school from 7:30 to 9:30 5 days a week and often giving up Saturdays as well. So never judge someone because they are at home during the day doing laundry and making dinner. You never know what their financial situation is and why things ended up the way they did. But yes I have experience with sort of the negative side of the trad wife movement which can sometimes be a situation where someone with talent can sometimes paralyze themselves out of fear, and drive themselves crazy in boredom, and lead to way too much time on the internet or so much time with the wine.
Anyone else read the title as Triad Wife? I was expecting tales of Chinese gangsters. I am disappoint.
I thought about an Irish lady playing reels on her fiddle. Most Every tourist in Ireland is always for good "craic" and a Trad session.
It’s social it’s media and online. Sorry this is still social media. Also given how much people repost from X and other sites it’s still chock full of stuff from other media. Good to cutback though.
I get your point. Maybe it is just me, but there seems to be a difference between this trad wife subculture and a stay at home mom. I'm not saying there definitely is, but those are the vibes I get.
This is again one of those things that too many people make too much out of it and use it to divide. If a woman chooses to want to pursue a career, have a family or not there is nothing wrong with that and her life decision should be respected. If a woman chooses to have a family and to be the primary caregiver there is nothing with that either and her life decision should be respected.
If my wife was down to do that and my salary alone could have covered our expenses, I wouldn't give two poops what she did. But starting out we both needed to work.
I'd like to clarify, being a stay at home mom is totally normal and 100% right for a lot of families. I'm raising to question the Trad wife "culture" like some others have mentioned, it lifts up it's values while putting down women who do work or send their children to the dreaded public schools.
That's exactly the scenario that perplexes me! They are in areas with top-notch schools. I don't know if it's concerns about the liberal agenda infiltrating but I know at least one of the areas well, and it is VERY conservative.
If you want to see how culturally unacceptable it is to knock down stay at home moms, look at this thread. No one feels comfortable knowing them. People understand how difficult and intensive it is to raise children. There is no contingent of humans with clout or influence that insult stay at home mothers. The "read wife" thing is a Internet culture wars thing where most people on social media accounts who portray themselves as one are more like IG models doing culture wars for clicks. The only people forcing. Their views is the right wing trying to limit agency of women.therr is no leftist movement to prevent women from chosing lives as home makers. In fact leftists want to reform the economic system that currently forces both parents to work full time to afford basics like rent and groceries.
