This is at best very misleading. This scenario would not happen to most people, as it only affects those with $100 million or more in wealth. In other words the top 0.01%.

And how do they measure "wealth"? What if you founded a startup that - on paper - is worth $ 1B. You still own 20 %. You have raised, let's say, $ 200 million, but never done any secondary. All the money you raised went into the startup. I think you do know that startup valuations fluctuate wildly. Let's say you started the company 8 years ago. For simplicity, let's say it did 4 funding rounds which set a new valuation. You got diluted every time, but after 2 years, the company is worth ON PAPER 100 million and the founder owns 50 %, after 4 years 400 million and the founder owns 40 %, after 6 years 600 million and the founder owns 30 %, after 8 years 1 billion and the founder still owns 20 %. Founder never did any secondary whatsoever, let's say because the investors wouldn't allow it. So the founder doesn't have any meaningful cash. He would fulfill the criteria for 100m wealth ON PAPER at the latest after year 4. In Kamala's world, where does the cash come from so that the founder can pay taxes on his unrealized gains at year 4, 5, 6, 7, 8? And which founder would voluntarily start a company in the US under these conditions?
