These are weird people, mostly outcasts who have never felt they fit in anywhere, and have all coalesced around a conman fraudster.

It is weird how people can be so easily duped.....by an angry OLD Orange man.

‘He Didn’t So Much Pass the Torch as Set It Ablaze’: The Best and Worst Moments From Night 1 of the Convention

    Best Moment
Kristen Soltis Anderson, contributing Opinion writer Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez. In a night showcasing the party’s elders, A.O.C. demonstrated that she is their future. Republicans underestimate her at their peril.

Binyamin Appelbaum, member of the editorial board The stark power of the personal testimonials from women denied access to pregnancy-related health care.

Charles M. Blow, Times columnist Hillary Clinton: fiery, impassioned, affecting.

Frank Bruni, contributing Opinion writer The orgy of applause for Hillary Clinton. I’m a sap. I can’t imagine what that meant to her, someone put through the political grinder like few leaders in my lifetime, someone forever haunted by (and blamed for) losing to Donald Trump. She needed that. So did Democrats. It affirmed their unity, elevated graciousness and turned the page.

Jane Coaston, contributing Opinion writer If you could bottle whatever Clinton must have been feeling listening to a chanting crowd scream “Lock him up,” it would power a nation.

Michelle Cottle, political writer for Opinion The three women (and one man) who shared their heart-wrenching abortion stories. In the midst of all the good vibes, it was a sharp reminder of the concrete stakes of this election.

Liam Donovan, Republican strategist Prominent placement of union leaders was smart given the states that will decide this election. Organized labor is still critical to financing, mobilizing and ultimately electing Democrats where it matters.

Michelle Goldberg, Times columnist I can’t decide if it was A.O.C.’s barnburner speech, Shawn Fain lambasting Trump as a scab or the women who spoke so bravely about the anguish Republican abortion bans inflicted on them.

Matt Labash, author of the newsletter Slack Tide Representative Jasmine Crockett of Texas needs her own show. Not only is she a snazzy dresser, but she set the drapes on fire, material-wise. Sample line: “[Harris] became a career prosecutor, while [Trump] became a career criminal. With 34 felonies, two impeachments and one p*rn star to prove it.”

    Worst Moment

Anderson President Biden being pushed out of prime time. It is understandable to want to make a break from the incumbent, but intentionally or not, it is just a brutal way to treat the incumbent president in your party.

Appelbaum Clinton, still trying to convince Americans to vote against Trump, still playing “Fight Song.” I’d rather not relive that experience, thanks very much.

Blow It dragged on too long — and the unfortunate image of delegates chanting “Lock him up” from the convention floor.

Bruni Get it together, Democrats. Don’t honor an 81-year-old who’s usually best before dusk by making him speak close to midnight in the East and not, as advertised, in prime time.

Coaston Kathy Hochul does not inspire the imagination.

Cottle When the clock struck 11 E.D.T. and we still had multiple speakers to get through. These are not the Oscars. Keep it tight, people.

Donovan Night 1 was surprisingly Covid-heavy for a ticket ostensibly focused on looking forward. With the exception of a solid Jason Isbell tune, little here for anyone but the party faithful.

Goldberg It was very moving to see Biden tear up after his daughter’s introduction, but his shouted speech left me so relieved that he’s not the candidate.

Labash The first half of the evening was larded with lieutenant governors, a state senator and who-the-hell-is-that bureaucrats, boring us out of our skulls. Competent governance doesn’t make for compelling drama. Especially not after nine years of watching MAGA stick its fingers in electrical sockets. My adrenal glands were going through withdrawal.

Interesting. There is more at the link. I definitely agree with those that say the worst was pushing Biden back so late.

I respect your attempt to be empathetic and entertain dialog from someone with bias. However I have to note that I disagree with entertaining this “both sides suck” narrative when these narratives for those on the left you are entertaining are so far out of left field I don’t even know where to start.

I’ve seen no evidence that Kamala is a raging alcoholic giving speeches drunk or that Walz has violent anger mgmt issues. I assume you are just saying this in jest, but even in this context you are providing a social permission slip for having the agenda they have.

I’m sure Kamala isn’t perfect but it’s night and day comparative to Trump and the MAGA right. We gotta stop it with the “both sides suck” narratives just because we want to seem reasonable to everyone. Because you won’t get the same reciprocation as it’s proven that they have an agenda that isn’t going to find comprimise.

Its an indicator to me how broken the thought processes are. I'm honestly beginning to think they genuinely have trouble seperating what they WISH was true from objective reality - i.e. they genuinely believe there is some huge rift in the Democratic Party because it is the most convienient outcome - i.e. they are chosing what to believe is true based on what they WISH was true. Not healthy.

Hell yea and bring Liz!! I have never watched a DNC but I did flip over last night when Hillary spoke, I don't really like her but dam she was fire. I kept watching after that and man what a hell of a night for the Dems, very inspiring and moving and when Uncle Joe came out after his daughter spoke, aint gonna lie, I had a tear in my eye. IMO the unity of the Dems to move so quickly to get the Harris campaign up and running at warp speed is nothing short of a miracle. This week will be a great springboard to get everyone out to stump for her, we have to get out there and get people to the polls, trump has a 47% ish ceiling and we must get voters to show up and show out.

I did not watch the RNC, was it comparable to what I saw last night........serious question

Check the diversity at the DNC vs the RNC. It's really not surprising anymore.

When your patriotism is to one man above country it says a lot. The man they are patriotic to says...

“Your country is being turned into a third-world hellhole, run by censors, perverts criminals and thugs.”

That's probably the most disgusting and anti-American quote ever coming from a Presidential candidate for the country I believe is the greatest in the world.

the RNC was nowhere close…DNC last night was basically prime Shaq: dominant

the RNC was current Deandre Jordan

I keep posting this because this was the vibes at that garbage RNC convention…the whole thing was a joke almost like a parody

this was my 1st time watching the DNC as well, and the Joe Biden introduction moment was simply beautiful…the end too when Biden was holding his little granddaughters hand and they were both holding up the peace sign as he and his family walked off the stage…it was a great send off for him

Idk what happened to the Dems…Idk what switch got flipped…after Kamala took the reigns this is an entirely different party…it’s like they finally got the old folks outta there, and now the younger group is running things and they know how to attack

Did what? He wanted to be there and he wanted to speak.

We have been moving away from shoving people into the dark and shutting them up.

Why did that bother you? Were you embarrassed for him? I highly doubt that he was.

I just had a thought. Kamala should come out to The Alan Parsons Project - Sirius. AKA The 90s Bulls intro song. "And now introducing your next President of the United States - Kamala Harris." The crowd goes wild.

I can't tell if that would be cheesy as hell or just plain awesome.

It would be awesome and cheesy and fun. It's associated with winning, and the Chicago locals would go nuts for it. You got to go all out and dim the lights, and have the original announcer do the intro.

He isn't supporting her, he said that she is likeable, attractive and a good candidate.

He doesn't support her policies - he hates Jews (she is married to a Jew), he is conservative, a fascist, he is a misogynist that has said women should not be able to vote.

He is just pissed that the people his hero (Trump) has around him are pushing Trump away from more extreme political positions.
