Evangelicals for Harris Use 'False Prophet' Bible Passage in Provocative New Ad Against Trump | CBN News

Evangelicals For Harris is releasing their second media spot in as many weeks, this time using biblical text from 1 John 4 that mentions false prophets and how Christians are to, "test the spirits to see if they are from God." The implication and context are pretty clear: they want evangelicals to ask themselves if former President Donald Trump fits the characteristics of a false prophet.

This ad is no doubt going to ruffle some conservative evangelical feathers. Those who support Trump see him as someone promoting biblical values when it comes to policy. They'll also argue that it's actually the Christian Left that is spreading a false presentation of the biblical message.

However, Evangelicals For Harris wants Christian voters to question what they believe is a rhetoric that lacks "Christian Witness" and is void of the "Love Thy Neighbor" biblical commandment.

It's crucial to remember here that Evangelicals For Harris is not trying to pick off the Trump hardcore evangelical faithful. That's not the game.

According to Pew Research, among Trump's base of white evangelical Protestant voters, 37 percent see him as a "GREAT" president; another 37 percent say he's been a "GOOD" one. But here's the key: 9 percent considered him just AVERAGE; 6 percent said he was a POOR president and 10 percent said TERRIBLE. Totaled together, that's 25 percent of conservative evangelicals who are relatively swingable/majorly lukewarm at best.

If Kamala Harris wins 20 percent or more of these skeptical evangelicals, she'll most likely win the presidency. That's what history tells us. Just ask Joe Biden who did it and Hillary Clinton who didn't.

The granddaughter of evangelist Billy Graham, Jerushah Duford, has endorsed Kamala Harris for president, joining the group ‘Evangelicals for Harris’.

Speaking on an Evangelicals for Harris Zoom call, she said: “In 2016, when a man bragged about assaulting women, various leaders of my faith then propped up this man as a poster boy for godly manhood and leadership.

"This broke my heart as I have watched — quite frankly, for the last eight years — people who were curious about Jesus and His teachings [have] done a 180 and walked in the other direction from my faith."

Matthew McCaffery is at risk of losing his job within the Republican Party after he publicly endorsed a Democrat for president.

Prominent Republicans, including some who worked for former President Donald Trump's administration, have endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris, even holding a "Republicans for Harris" event. In July, McCaffery, who said he voted for Trump in 2016, endorsed President Joe Biden, in part because of the former president's rhetoric and his attitude toward the U.S. military and the Capitol riot.

McCaffery, who serves as the Republican municipal chair in Upper Merion Township, Pennsylvania, has since come out in support of Harris and uses his social media to encourage Republicans to vote against Trump.

McCaffery told Newsweek that a few committee members weren't fans of the former president but would "hold their nose and vote for Trump anyway." However, there are Republicans in the Pennsylvania county who would vote for Harris or write in another candidate, he added.

Montgomery County Republicans are pushing for McCaffery to resign, and he said his disciplinary hearing is set for August 19. He expects his time as municipal leader to be over when the hearing ends.

"I was prepared for the backlash, but I will say it's not as intense as I thought it would be," McCaffery said. "I appreciate the folks in the party that, while they don't agree with my stance, respect my position and agree that I have been upfront about my intention to try to move the party away from the Trump chaos that has been 'dogging' our Republican candidates up and down the ticket here in Pennsylvania."

In a July op-ed for The Philadelphia Inquirer, McCaffery wrote that Trump "never cared for me or my brothers and sisters in the armed forces." He said he didn't agree with Biden on a lot of issues but praised him for his respect for service members.

McCaffery said he originally voted for Trump because he wanted a "change in the political status quo" and thought Trump would soften his "extreme" rhetoric after taking office.

"I served under James Mattis, who was Trump's secretary of defense from 2017 to 2018. I believe Mattis when he said in 2020 that Trump is a threat to democracy," McCaffery wrote.

I didn't read the REASON article, but he’s absolutely not a MAGA supporter. If being a conservative now means aligning with MAGA, then the clear answer is NO.

But is he a prominent conservative? You be the judge:

• Served as a U.S. circuit judge on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 4th Circuit for 15 years.
• Spent a year in the Reagan administration as a counsel.
• Served as a law clerk to the late Antonin Scalia.
• Clerked for Chief Justice Warren Burger of the Supreme Court.
• Served as Assistant Attorney General in the DOJ under George H.W. Bush.
• Personally shepherded Clarence Thomas through his Supreme Court confirmation hearings.

The pattern from the GOP is clear for all to see. If you oppose Trump, it's time to silence you, ban you, and in this case, question whether you’re truly a prominent conservative.

Although Luttig's has not been a common household name in the United States, he has long been a prominent player in national legal circles and a rising star among conservatives during his decade-long tenure on the appeals court.​

Luttig also is considered by many legal experts as someone likely to be on President George W. Bush's list of potential Supreme Court nominees. Over the years, he has earned a reputation as a smart and bold conservative, a strong advocate of federalism, and a jurist assured of his convictions.

"He is a man who is not tortured by doubt over the correctness of his judicial philosophy," said Bruce Fein, a lawyer and constitutional scholar who was a deputy attorney general in the Reagan administration.

Luttig, 47, was born in Tyler, Texas. He earned a law degree from the University of Virginia and lives in Northern Virginia, just outside of Washington, D.C.

Former President George H.W. Bush nominated Luttig for the appeals court judgeship in 1991. Luttig had clerked for Burger in the mid-1980s, and before that, worked as a law clerk to Scalia when Scalia was an appeals judge in the District of Columbia.

Luttig then went on to work for the Justice Department during the first Bush administration, where he provided counsel during the Supreme Court nomination process for both Thomas and Souter.

"His reputation is one of an extremely smart, hard-line conservative," said Heather Gerken, an assistant professor at Harvard Law School, who also was a Supreme Court clerk for Souter. "Even those on the left, who disagree with his politics, really agree that he is very, very smart."

Gerken said Luttig is recognized as one of the nation's most prominent "feeder" judges, whose clerks go on to be law clerks at the Supreme Court. She noted that they are reputed to be among the most conservative clerks in the high court.

 

He's going to lose his job. Swatting is also happening to some of them and their families. Respect to those Republicans who take a stance against Trump and face this backlash and potential dangers to themselves and their families.
