He has a real coach now, for that. However, you could ask Roosh to tell him.

But I have a feeling you’ll say Ime doesn’t count, because you’re whole intent with that post was to bait and insult other posters.

Your M.O. is so boring. Or are you actually White Knighting the GARM to save us, like tinman did for years, b4 he realized how boring he was to everyone.

I don’t think it as silly at all that Amen and Jabari are more valuable. They are much better at the role they have been given, than Jalen has been at the role he has been given. It is all up to Jalen to clean up those horrible outings that made up at least half of last season. I want Jalen to excel, but we need to be realistic about his performance so far and make sure he makes significant headway this year.

Hand checking was completely offset by the eradication of Illegal Defense rules, which had allowed Jordan to ISO much easier than players since that rule change.

I would go so far to say that eradication of Illegal Defense rules makes it significantly more difficult to score from the perimeter (and the post) and that is why the NBA had to evolve into a spacing game.

Yes, because SHOOTING guards aren't supposed to suck at SHOOTING, especially in the modern NBA.

I wouldn't hold Jordan to the same 3 point standards because he played in a completely different era decades ago.... but even if I ignored era, Jordan's TS% for the first decade of his career was 58.6% which would be above average for a SG even today.

"More valuable" Amen and Jabari couldn't dream of drawing that much attention if they both drove together lmao

Well, it hasn't helped so far, and he only has a few months left to turn it all around.

Whine about me being honest if you want, but I'm not a blind faith type enabling those who are terrible.

I think the new apron rules are going to have a significant impact on how teams must approach their roster make-up. Since defense is less valued as a salary component more teams may be looking to invest in defense and spending big money on 3 pt specialists may become less common. We may see post play make somewhat of a comeback. The NBA constantly evolves and offenses like 5 out will be schemed against, especially since teams won’t have the luxury of paying guys that are just sharp shooters. I think the Rockets have a lot to determine this year. It is not going to be easy to determine who in there top 6 or 7 they are going to pay and which they will have to plan around.

I think Jalen’s skill in breaking down the defense is why he is still on this team. We don’t have anyone else on the roster that can do it as effectively as Jalen right now, but there is no getting around the fact that he played putridly in at least half the games last year. If he plays like he did last year, he will not be signed to the rookie max by the Rockets. That is a fact. I, unlike some, think they will give him the whole year to prove he is worth it not just until the deadline. If Jalen is good this year, he is a shoe-in for the max. It is a big IF. Amen will get to where he will also be able to break down defenses, but asking him to take on that roll full-time this year would be an extreme gamble, but maybe he will surprise us. Kids with his IQ and “want-to” don’t come around very often.

Fully agree! They should give Jalen the whole year, because he is a slow improving player and he needs to be consistent in his game, which won't come right away. I am hoping to see constant improvement and better consistency. Only if there is no light in that direction, they can trade him before the deadline.

I wouldn't be surprised if Amen makes a huge jump. He started his rookie year injured, which is a big disadvantage and still managed to improve significantly. With a summer and a fully healthy season, I think he might be the biggest surprise of the year.

It was before zone defenses which was allowed in 2001. Actually used to win a championship by Dallas vs Miami and the big 3 in 2010.

Because LeBron, D-Wade and most of the Heat team.....the Mavs beat the high FG% players of LeBron and D- Wade. Sounds like a Houston
team that has been last in 3-,point shooting
most of the last 3 years.

Back in MJ's time that lack of zone defense allowed Triangle Offense to dominate.

Plus as JJ Redick point out it was a time of expansion. The talent was spread out. MJ got past his man and then just had to worry about the big centers moving over.....Centers like Kevin Duckworth and George Murasan. Guys that couldn't move.

Whenever he face Olajuwon his team would lose.

Using Bobby's logic he would call MJ a bust because he would be asked to shoot 8 or 9 threes and the zone defenses wouldn't have let MJ get to the rim so easily.

I saw MJ clank about 3 dunks off the back rim on his first two years.....I've never seen Jalen blow a dunk on the fast break like that Not in 3 years.

He won’t be a surprise to me. I think he will be our best player by year’s end. The sky is the limit for Amen.

I think you need to realize that you don't comprehend the game or logic in general well enough to fully understand anyone's logic.

Jordan finished his career scoring 30 points per game on 57% TS% that's NEVER going to be considered bad by anyone with a fully functioning brain.... even if they saw him miss a dunk once.

Don't embarrass the draft bust further by trying to compare him to the greatest player in the history of the sport.

What I saw from Jalen during our hot streak looked different. If he can be 80% of that for 80% of the season then the rox are in business. I was ready to cut bait with him at various points last season for many of the reasons the jaters crow about. Maybe I’m hoping against hope that what I saw there from him was a turning of the corner and not a mirage. We’ll soon see.

Jalen would be MJ if zone defenses didn't exist. SGA must be some sort of warlock to achieve the averages he does.

This thread is like some sort of bizarro basketball discourse land.

I’m not in the Jalen discussion, but hand-checking as a significant historical rule is a pet-peeve of mine.

Zone defense wasn’t a big change, either. The enormous defensive flexibility of leaving your man to help, without fully committing, was how teams utilized their new defensive freedom … not to mention doubling a man without the ball.

The answer to that was erosion of traditional basketball roles/positions to generate spacing … traditional Bigs (PF and Cs) started giving way to 3&D players and small-ball lineups, to the point most teams field some flavor of small-ball lineup at some point in a game…such that we don’t even talk about it as outrageous anymore.

anyhoot, my point isn’t that today’s game is harder, but rather to say in the history of NBA paradigmatic shifts, hand-checking pales in comparison to Illegal Defense rules and Spacing principles.

Guys like MJ/AI/Cuttino/Francis could clear a side of the court anytime they wanted, per the rules. So, that was a significant advantage vs other leagues. And today’s players have an enormous advantage with spacing, despite defenses having much more freedom to play professional man-defense like can be played …

    Coming from the brainless one.

Wilt Chamberlain was interviewed by Roy Firestone and asked who is the G.O.A.T. ?

His answer was him. He said the NBA made rules to hurt his game like the paint and 3-second rule. The NBA put in rules to help Jordan like "No Hand Check rule"

    Wilt is right.

You think you are smart......Google why Triangle
Offense doesn't work today in the NBA.

You will find thousands of articles stating how the Triangle Offense the way Phil Jackson created it
is non viable in today's NBA. It has to be projected out to the 3-point line. Because of variations of zone defense.

The post ups of Olajuwon, Ewing, Barkley and Malone are gone because of zone defenses.
Olajuwon receiving the inbound pass, kicking out to Kenny, reposition and receive the post again are gone.....because of zone defense.

Back then defenders at to be in the proximity of their assignments. Today players are playing halfway between their assignments and others.

In Jordans day, players would ask their teammates who they got (to defend), if they said Jordan, they would say good luck. That was because players would stick to their opponent and those guarding Jordan were left on an island with little to no help.
Today Jalen Green has to beat his man and all the other defenders with one or two feet in the paint.

Bigs like Embiid, Jokic, Sengun, Brook Lopez, Edey, KAT get to play "Drop Coverage" which is in itself a form of zone defense.

Learn the game Whip Lo. I know they taught you wrong on purpose.....but do some research

Like I said, I'm sure they can but that's the equivalent of saying your company idea is worth a ton of money even though it's just an idea and you've never sold anything. Show me sales receipts and purchase orders. Show me what they've achieved already and at what level.

We don't differ on the conceptual value, I know Amen can become a star. However he is not a star right now either. So far Amen has played like half a season in a very limited role and has a high efficiency on a very low volume of shots. Like come on, he can't do a 2024 value-ranking and ignore what each has already delivered. Jalen is one of the highest scoring players under 21 of all time . Even if his efficiency is sucky, he's won more games, he led an 11-game winning streak for a team in the playoff chase, he's had more assists, he played 82 games at 30+ minutes. This has been delivered already, it's not a future promise.
