If Pressly hadn't sucked at the beginning of the season they would probably already have the best record in MLB. I could easily see them winning 15 of their next 20 with a pitching staff of Framber Brown Kikuchi Blanco JV. Do what it takes to keep Framber around, let JV walk after this year and either re-sign Bregs and trade Tucker, or re-sign Tucker and let Bregs walk. For this year they will have a good shot at a ring if Tucker can make it back and one of Dezenzo/Whitcomb/Leon comes through for them and Caratini is a regular come playoff time.
SIngleton. Like, by a lot. Singleton has been better this year than Yuli was in '22 and '23 - and Yuli is now a year older. To give up literally *anything* to bring in Yuli Gurriel would be organizational malpractice.
Chas very well could bounce back, and that would be a boon for the Astros. He will need to earn his spot though. The Astros may try and trade him in the off season rather than pay him (likely)$4M in arbitration. Obviously, Tucker is the starting RF and Meyers has won CF (for now). If Whitcomb ( or less likely Leon) impress over the next 6 weeks, they may decide he is the starting LF in 2025 and a cheaper bench OF will be better.
Singleton is fine against right handed pitching. His OPS is like .750 against righties.... you want something better than that, but at least it isn't a black hole. The issue is that he shouldn't ever face a lefty, his OPS is like .400% against lefties. I will take a random AAA hitter over Singleton against lefties.
Dana needs to trade Chas to save the 4 mil that should go with JV's 17 mil and put towards bringing back either Tucker or Bregs.
Unless they think they are a potential W.S. foe. Yuli does not have much trade value. Because of that it may not be worth it to them but I acknowledge insurance for Matt Olson is a much more likely reason to hold on to him.
This is when you play Yanier at 1B and Caratini at C against righthanders. That's if they aren't going to bring in a vet like Yuli or Urshela.
Chas may be the direct-to-television sequel to Preston Tucker... (Kyle is the better than the original version)
I had to clarify a year for Scott and Keuchel. I don’t want to put Randy Johnson on there because he wasn’t even a full season and he was out pitched twice in the playoffs and we lost.
The problem with that is that pitcher/catcher relationship is a much better reason than the starting pitcher the team is facing when deciding who the catcher should be.
A straight Singleton/Dubon platoon is not ideal but perfectly passable if the rest of the lineup is solid. The problem is that McCormick died right after Abreu did and Meyers settled back down into below-average territory, so without Tucker they’re hitting with a 5.5 bat lineup. If Tucker comes back healthy and they find some sign of life in LF between McCormick, Whitcomb, Dezenzo, and Leon, 1B won’t be the thing that keeps them from winning in the playoffs.
Not if Singleton is facing a LHP. Yuli did have 17 hits in 12 postseason games and has been hitting well in the minors. So there is that little piece of information. Yuli is post season proven.
