What is "Courtney Lee " competence?

I guarantee if we swapped Green for even the best version of Courtney Lee we would lose more games.

Is this because you just care about jump shooting?

    The argument keeps changing.

    “Not good defender”
    “Not shooting league avg”
    “Not good TS%”
“Not as competent as Courtney Lee”

Lol Courtney Lee is the baseline now. What an odd comparison. Also there’s a lot of assumption on this site that guys like Booker came out of nowhere and was great. If they watched the film on Booker in 17-18 year 3, they would see a different player. Anthony Edwards does not make great decisions with the ball in year 4 and the playoffs exposed some of his issues. But those guys have been crowned by Rocket fans. Again Grass is greener, Glass Half empty syndrome.

They can’t tell you none of that because they don’t know what they’re watching and it is evident.

He needs to shoot league average in 3 pt % according to the popular argument on this site. It was.366 last year and .361 the year prior. Likely .360 or more this season. So potentially his avg absolutely cannot be 1/10 less than the league .360 threshold lmao

"Not as good as Courtney Lee"

Courtney Lee: 12.5pts 3.5reb, 1.7 ass was his best year of his career, and he got worse from there (his 2nd season.)

I love how often they just show they nothing about basketball despite trying to argue from a position of "superiority." Absolute WOAT level takes on this forum.

I believe the guy was arguing that Lee was fundamentally a solid player defensively and shooting 3s although he never quite defined or explained what that meant. But that’s what Lee was—he was a 3-D player. Not every player is a 3-D player and certainly not all stars are and that’s ok. Let’s just focus on improving deficiencies while honing the skills that’s already there.

FT% / FG% (overall and what else subgroup % you can think of)......

    You have rebounding.....

You have one on one defense & team defense.....

You have assists, rather direct or hockey etc.....

You have mental aspect (getting benched and how you overcome it or not)....

You got game plan from teams to face/adjust to....

But you jaterade drinkers are focused on the one thing that is really going to take him to superstar/March consistent level ...... And then the new narrative from you anti green president cult members will be.....

''can he do it for more than one year since he sucked his first 3 years besides his 8 game fluke stretch...will he resort back to missing 2/3rds of his 3pointers''....

You village comedians are making it seem like Green is Korver or C Jackson coming out of college and lost his 3pt shot

He was always a project day one with scoring title ability (3 level according to scouts).....and it was going to take 4 yrs to showcase it

Which most do that come straight out of HS besides Bron/Amare......

And all others who made that HS leap straight to NBA looked similar to Green, showcasing enough (or flame out) to let it play out like now ..... Talented player(s) meets Competent credible coach = NBA fireworks = fanatics run amok in joy

Big whoop. Doncic averaged almost exactly the same his first 4 seasons. Still 34.7% for his career. Green is 33.7%.

Where in Luka's first 7 professional years did Luka's stats show he can suddenly hit 38% last season? You think you'd be the one who could predict it by looking backwards and drawing a linear chart about the future? Your analysis would fail because it's faulty. And please don't tell me it's an exception, there are way too many exceptions for them to qualify as exceptions.

Green is going to get better at shooting now that he's had a year with a solid development staff. You can't deny that they had to improve everything (defense, finishing, shooting, fundamentals, rebounding, smarter passing). You just can't improve all those things simultaneously in the half a season you wished for. The greatest development coach in NBA history is not going to undo a decade of bad habits - in half a season!!!!!!!

Something had to take priority/backseat. The way the dice rolled is our HC is crazy about defense so firstly Green's defense went from garbage to near average in less than a whole season. Next his rebounding and assist rate improved near the halfway point of the season. Finally the only missing component - smarter scoring - came on in the final third or quarter of the season.

If Udoka is right - as he said, Jalen actually figured it out - he may have pulled off the greatest reclamation project in NBA history. Within one season, everything improved. Do you know what Udoka would tell you if you sat and nitpicked about the fact that his offense came on a little too late for your liking? After he improved EVERYTHING in one season and the offense was a teensy weensy bit too late to make you feel secure? He'd probably give you the same treatment he gave Lebron last season.

Big picture. Focus on the big picture man. The game is half defense and half offense. That's how a player will impact the game. 3PT shooting is less than 25% of the formula for winning while the other 75% actually improved.

Give Udoka and Green some props for their work instead of nitpicking at the one and last thing out of like 7 areas they improved. In 2024 a SG has to do ALL those things, not just shoot. Shooting is literally NOT more important than defense or finishing at the rim and he improved the other two.

Look I know Silas era ****ed us into believing that improvement is rare and difficult. That nightmare is over man. Have faith in the quality of our staff, pretty much everyone unanimously agrees Udoka is amazing at his job. Have faith in the fact that no one on the roster has been called hardworking or persistent (by coaches and teammates) more often than Green.

Something special is brewing here. Another relatively predictable "exception". Wish you could enjoy the upswing with us.

As I said these fans pick and choose who they crown as a “good” player. Luka still shot less than league average in 22-23 and 32% or less his first 2. But he gets a pass as well. These standards they define are completely arbitrary.

It probably does seem that way to people who don't know enough basketball to know the difference between good players and bad players.... but it's not actually arbitrary.

The fact that I even have to explain to you that the worst Luka has ever been is considerably better than Jalen has ever been suggests maybe basketball isn't for you my guy.

Ah yes, because 3 point percentage is all that matters. Let us never forget the greatest player of all time...Steve Kerr! You should just quit watching basketball, you don't understand how it works, evidently.

I think Jalen will be really good somewhere. I hope it is here. I think the Rockets will give it all season to decide on his contract or let him go to RFA. He definitely improved last year. Our problem was Stone not pulling the plug on Silas earlier. Now he has to earn his contract with just one year of solid coaching under his belt. Sengun and Amen are slam dunks for rookie max. If Jabari improves once again he is heading for max as well. There may be a way to have 4 rookie max contracts, but I doubt it. Just not good enough with new apron rules to figure that out. What if FVV has another outstanding year and we make the playoffs with him playing 30 mins a game. Do we give him another year?

I wish for the first contracts they would take a little less. It is easy for me to ask that though much harder to actually do it.

I bet if they have a lot of success this year maybe it could happen. Endorsements etc

It's not all that matters... but it's extremely important for a shooting guard that doesn't play defense, and is a significantly below answerable finisher at the rim, and can't reliably create for his teammates.... at some point there has to be something he's good at.

No way either will take less. I even think that if Jalen just stays about the same, somebody will give him the max. His ceiling is extremely high and he is still only 23. Taking a shot with him will not be a problem for teams like Washington and a couple of others. No way Sengun takes less. He is an absolute shoe-in unless he gets injured. The Rockets are in a hard place, because they have at least 4 guys that can command the max over the next 2-3 years.

Am I wrong too that if you take less on your first extension your max is less overall on your next one?

Curry I believe did that but has got paid plenty of course.
