Matt Schaub was a two time Pro Bowler in his hey day. He even led the league in passing yards one year. Had he not gotten that broken foot in Tampa Bay in 2011 when he was leading a Texans offensive juggernaut, he probably could have taken them to a Super Bowl at some point. Even Andre Johnson lamented as such in the Houston Chronicle.

His lisfranc fracture was career-altering. A sports medicine doctor on another forum accurately predicted Schaub's capabilities upon returning to action in 2012. He would start like gangbusters, which he did, but then progressively decline as the season wore on and that's what happened. He couldn't throw deep anymore and his lack of athleticism didn't help matters either. Teams knew his throws were now ducks but how would the Texans have handled that situation in public? Bench him in the middle of the season? Or continue to play him while he was in an uninjured (but compromised) state?

Maybe in an alternate universe, perhaps Kubiak did not call for that catastrophic qb sneak in Tampa Bay (when the Texans were already well ahead) and perhaps a totally healthy Schaub did lead the Texans to at least a Super Bowl. But such developments meant that the Texans never got Deshaun Watson and CJ Stroud. Something to think about.

I for one am appreciative we did have Matt Schaub for the time, first qb to take the Texans to the playoffs and become a Pro Bowler. Seems like a good guy. If he "sucked" at the end of his career, at least understand why. The fact that "fans" would actually show up at his house and burn his jersey. And we entitled fans deserve CJ Stroud? Well, may CJ have a long and productive career with our Houston Texans and bring home some trophies.

Like the Mixon situation, said team that really needs a rb can have the upper hand. The talent is still there with Pierce. I still believe in him just needs to get away from Kubiahan tree

Sure, 27 year olds with no track record. For Pierce, it's simply about zone.
a 7th rounder is nothing for any team wanting to take a flyer on talent. Texans gave up a 6th for Skow who was going to get cut.

I thought there were few answers today with most bubble players showing up. I'm glad it's not me making the cuts.

The reason he still has value is his history in a different system. Enough teams could use him that a trade is preferable to hoping he's there when your turn comes up on the waiver wire.

Would rather keep Akers, Jordan, Taylor, and Brooks on the team over Pierce

I'm really rooting for Metchie. I think he makes the team over Woods and Brown, among others, but I want him to do more than make the team. I want to see that boy shine.

It's insane to me that every single RB on the roster that has had an opportunity in the preseason has had flashes and looked at least decent, except Pierce. It's bizarre that changing schemes can have such an effect on that position, but I think we've all seen enough to know this season is not going to somehow be different for him. Players can talk about how different he looks in practice, but the game reps tell the tale. He can't find the gaps. His vision is terrible. He doesn't even break tackles anymore like he did that first season. They need to do right by him and cut him now so he has a chance to catch on with another team that can give him reps in the last preseason game so he has a chance to prove himself in another scheme. No one is going to trade even a 7th rounder for a guy that was terrible last year and looks just as bad this year.

I was always LUKE WARM on Schaub. He was a good system QB, he couldn't carry a team. He was not going to make that one play to put you over the top. I think Kubiac got the most out of him.
