What position Wemby plays is very Germaine to the conversation. Wemby is not greatly effective in the post on offense. Wemby also is not a good 3 pt shooter which is a necessity for a perimeter offensive player. He is a very good defensive player except when trying to guard much stronger players. He is a very good rebounder on both the offensive and defensive end. Sengun will seldom guard Wemby or Chet that job is Jabari’s, Amen’s, and Tari’s. If Wemby developers a Durant like stroke, he will be a superstar. If he doesn’t he will be a perennial all-star both from ability and from NBA and media PR. Right now he is not as good as Sengun, but has a higher ceiling. Injuries could de-rail either of these players. SA will tank again this year and the NBA will reward them with a top two pick. It is in their best interest to promote Wemby as the most celebrated international star since Yao Ming.

So rudy at his peak was a reasonable low level mvp candidate. He would never be top 3 but he had a decent stretch where he was a top 8ish mvp (partly due to durability). It’s safe to say wemby will be a generational defender and the best in the league. There’s no way he can be a worse offensive player than rudy, so i would say his floor is probably 4-5th best player, and the most likely outcome is he’s 1st or 2nd (if jokic has another 4-5 years in him). If you are a believer in advanced metrics wemby had a higher emp, bpm, vorp last season than sengun (if you don’t ignore this part).

    wtf is this nonsense

Are you talking about Rudy Gobert? Rudy Gobert was never even remotely an MVP candidate.

I don't think anyone ever considered Gobert a top-20 player in the league.

Just to be clear... He was 10th and 11th in MVP voting before and has 1 all NBA second team and 3 all-nba third team selections.

So yes by people who matter, he was top 20 at points in his career.

No, like people who think a dude who can do absolutely nothing with the basketball 2 ft from the rim is a top 10 basketball player in the world.

But thanks for clarifying you are one of those people I mentioned above.

It's the Utah and French agenda isn't it? They got the media at gun point forcing NBA media to vote him in all NBA teams.

But I noticed you casually went from "20" to "10" to make you sound more reasonable because you realized it's actually reasonable that he was a top 20 player for a few seasons.

It's better if you do some self deprecating humor and just say you are stupid sometimes and you will come out as a more likeable person here. Just a suggestion.

I am stupid sometimes but that's not because I said Gobert has never been a top10 or top20 player in the world, because he has never been that.

You said he made it to All NBA 2nd team. If you genuinely believe he was the 2nd best Center in the entire world at some point in his career, it just shows your lack of understanding of basketball.

And lastly, I couldn't care less about being a likeable person here.

Rudy getting MVP votes is just like him getting DPOY awards, dude is literally a liability out there and somehow won the award 3 times... he's soo bad France had to bench him in the Olympics. I dunno how these people get votes, literally no criteria necessary. Most of them don't even watch all the games cuz anyone who does would never vote Rudy. Wemby shoulda been DPOY last year. And he might win the next 15 in a row,

If he’s a liability why did Utah constantly have an elite defense? Was it joe ingles? Mitchell? What was the reason? And who cares about the olympics? Embiid who’s a top 2 player got benched a ton. We’re just talking about him in the nba when he was in Utah

Utah never had an elite defense in playoffs. He got hunted all day long when it mattered. Rockets won like 20 straight games against Rudy Gobert's Jazz with Harden, cuz he was an absolute liability out there. Look at what Luka did him in this playoffs. Heck he couldn't even guard Jokic. They were better with him in the bench as KAT is way more physical and a better matchup for Jokic.

Utah schemed its way to good defense numbers with their style of play. Feasted on bad teams but no one has ever been afraid of a Rudy Gobert team except when he gave the entire league Covid.

Dpoy is for the regular season, it’s voted on before the playoffs so playoffs are irrelevant for this purpose. Also LOL at “he couldn’t guard jokic”, there are about 0 people on earth who can guard him. He always had 4 awful defenders around him and yet they would consistently be at the top of the league every year, because he was that incredibly great.

What gives these media members the right to choose DPOY? Like what are their credentials. Basically just fans like you and I voting. It's a joke how these awards are won. No player in NBA respects him and thinks he's a good a defender. I don't even think his own team likes him.

So who should vote? Coaches don’t give a crap, players are completely clueless at talent evaluation, what’s left
