This is not how it is done.

The two campaigns negotiate with the networks for a debate date and then among themselves on the debate rules. One campaign does not go it alone.

got it, so you think NBC's debate rules and/or format are unfair, which is why the harris campaign hasn't committed to it. Bet as soon as they agree not to have a live audience then she'll agree to do the debate. Trump, to his credit, doesn't have a problem with how NBC has proposed the potential 9/25 debate

I have no idea what Kamala is thinking. She did say that if Trump shows up for the September 10th debate, she will discuss having one more.

Here is a recent article ...

Harris campaign says it will participate in 2 presidential debates and 1 VP debate
by Brett Samuels - 08/15/24 1:23 PM ET

The Harris campaign said Thursday it will participate in a total of three debates this election season: two presidential debates and one vice presidential debate.

The campaign in a statement sought to put an end to the Trump campaign’s suggestion of additional debates before Election Day, declaring the “debate about debates is over.”

“Assuming Donald Trump actually shows up on September 10 to debate Vice President Harris, then Governor Walz will see JD Vance on October 1 and the American people will have another opportunity to see the vice president and Donald Trump on the debate stage in October,” campaign communications director Michael Tyler said in a statement.

“Voters deserve to see the candidates for the highest office in the land share their competing visions for our future,” he added. “The more they play games, the more insecure and unserious Trump and Vance reveal themselves to be to the American people. Those games end now.”

Vice President Harris has agreed to debate former President Trump on Sept. 10 on ABC News. Trump has said he accepted two other proposed debates, one on Sept. 4 on Fox News and another on Sept. 25 on NBC News.

But Thursday’s statement makes clear Harris will not partake in either the Fox or NBC events but would instead participate in an October debate with Trump, as long as he attends the Sept. 10 showdown.

On the vice presidential front, Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz (D) and Sen. JD Vance (R-Ohio) have agreed to an Oct. 1 debate hosted by CBS News.

In accepting that date, Vance proposed a second one Sept. 18 hosted by CNN. Thursday’s statement from the Harris campaign indicated there would only be one vice presidential debate, which is in line with historical norms.

Trump had previously agreed to two debates with President Biden: one on June 27 and another Sept. 10. But Biden’s disastrous performance in the June debate triggered calls for him to step aside as the Democratic nominee, which he did in late July.

Democrats quickly coalesced behind Harris as the nominee, and she has surged in the polls, erasing Trump’s lead.

You don't think it's weird for her campaign to be saying "assuming he shows up" (the part you bolded), when a week before this he already confirmed those dates and she's the one not wanting to confirm the NBC or Fox ones? It is just a weird thing to say when she herself is the only one avoiding debates.

He's bailed on commitments before. So no, it's not weird at all. What's weird is how much drama Trump creates about debates

What debates has he bailed on before?

If Kamala had stuck by her word of "anytime, anyplace" and said "I'll debate Trump on Fox News, nbc news, it doesn't matter because the American people need to see me shut down his campaign live", I'd be like kamala is a badass. Instead the exact opposite

He can't be trusted to show up. It's not hard to realize why he isn't reliable or trustworthy.

Skipped out on a presidential debate in 2020 - maybe you were too young to remember? Also bailed on primary debates many times. You sure you know Trump?

    The September 10th debate.

Trump told Biden he would do it.
    Biden dropped out.
Then Trump announces that he would not debate on September 10th, but he might consider a Fox debate.
    Kamala scoffed.
Then Trump announces that he wants a NBC and Fox debate.
    Kamala scoffed.
    etc.

Trump can't make his mind up what he wants. There is a non-zero chance that Trump bails on the September 10th debate. If Trump does bail, why should Kamala entertain another debate?

Trump looks like he wants a Fox debate/rally whether he only gets friendly questions that he does not have to answer ... just talk about sharks and boats and dinner with Hannibal Lecter ...

was this the one where the format changed due to him testing positive for covid? he shouldn't be live infecting people but not sure how a virtual debate would have went for either candidate.

you might want to go check your timeline again. trump never said he wouldn't debate kamala, just that he had agreed to debate biden. but the 9/10 debate is still on and never changed, so not sure what you mean there. the only one afraid to debate is kamala, who has so far declined NBC's invite, as well as Fox's.

    (back on topic)

And there you go, with the House Republicans transitioning their investigation to target the political opponents of Trump.

This is a prime example of 'weaponizing the government,' doing precisely what they falsely accuse Democrats of doing.

Since we’re on the topic of weaponizing the government, here’s another example of Republicans doing just that. This time, they’re targeting a private citizen. Under a Trump presidency, going after those who dare to criticize him will likely become commonplace.

I don't know the exact reasons he gave for chickening out of that debate or any of the other primary debates. Point is, he's not a certainty to show up.

I can beat that. Trump still says he won the last election. LMAO. Trump said he turned in all the classified documents he stole, before being caught red handed. There are thousands more lies spewing out his mouth every month, and far too many to list. The dude is a pathological liar. He can't speak 2 minutes without spewing lies.

I’m asking for asylum in Ireland so I don’t have to go back to the authoritarian rule of Supreme leader Tim Walz and sharia law in Minneapolis..
