That is about right. Its hard to imagine the Blue Jays winning their division the rest of my lifetime. On the other hand, I might have said that about the Orioles a few years ago also.
And yet the Blue Jays looked setup beautifully not that long ago. The last couple of years have just seen Biggio DFAd, Vlad having down years (though back this year), Manoah forgot how to pitch, Bichette suddenly can't hit, Kirk fell off, and they haven't had any meaningful prospects fill in gaps since that main core graduated and have been totally inept at developing pitching.
The Blued Jays have watched Springer decline every year also. Not sure what happened, but your observation is accurate.
I was thinking that at least they'll be done with that contract after next year, but nope, 2 more years. Still, I'd have traded Jose Abreu or Rafael Montero to them in a heartbeat to bring back George
We also gave them a World Series battle tested Derek Fisher and they managed to ruin him He was all-star worthy with his career 1.000 OB% in the playoffs.

We want...? https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2024/08/cubs-release-hector-neris.html Cubs Release Hector Neris By Steve Adams | August 20, 2024 at 9:18am CDT The Cubs are releasing veteran reliever Hector Neris, reports ESPN’s Jesse Rogers. The team already passed Neris through waivers without making a formal announcement of the move. He went unclaimed. Neris’ spot on the 40-man roster will be filled by right-hander Jack Neely, whose contract is being selected from Triple-A Iowa. Neely was acquired from the Yankees in the deadline trade sending Mark Leiter Jr. to the Bronx.
WTF, Neris has been awesome the last 2 months. Apparently they really didn't want his option to vest. F**k yeah I'm all over that, but I imagine so will a lot of other teams. Easy call for me to take him over Dubin, Ferguson, and Martinez, he's a tested leverage guy.
Cubs are already paying his salary one way or the other. I would hope we would have the upper hand over other playoff teams but who knows.
