I see why some people do it because my God…it could be 8 PM on a Sunday and there’s still traffic LA got that “there’s been a 3 car crash and mulitple lanes are closed” type of traffic all the damn time…I feel relief when I get back to Houston
I mostly got lucky AF every time driving thru LA. Traffic wasn't too bad and/or the other direction was getting it worse -- but it's definitely worse than Houston overall. The freeways are nice with multi-lanes, but there's no feeder roads. Texans are spoiled with feeder roads and u-turn lanes. For now, Houston needs better freeway planning. Them fools are tearing down ramps that have only existed 3 years. That's partly the reason property taxes are rising so much. Somebody gotta pay for it.
What Houston needs is another loop. Whatever you do, make it one lane each way so you can add lanes to it as necessary so you can have some traffic in the future.
Look at the Consensus of Texas. Fastest growing state by a wide margin. Were over 30 million people now. Our highway growth is extremely slow. We will be the new LA in regards to traffic in the next few years.
Every time I see them working on I-45 I say to myself, add 3 more lanes then you think you need cause by the time you get back to the same spot in 10 years, you`ll have it done I get to work an hour early just to avoid traffic, I leave at 6:10am and it takes me 22 minutes, the way home is an hour
It's sadly comical how many people are moving into the Hill Country, there's ranches being developed into subdivisions left and right. At the same time, everybody complains about the lack of water, throws their hands up and asks "why?"
TBH, I am more worried about electric costs in Texas. Average KW is up to 16c per as compared to 7.5c just 4 years ago. Texas grid already can't handle the amount of people coming in, and with the increased popularity in electric vehicles its going to require many more power plants, upgraded equipment, etc. Partner up the inflation. California is around 40c KW with fees due to having to pull power from other states. Were next. 500-700 a month utility bills in 2000ft square foot homes. Cali is about 5-10 years ahead of us in the forecast department.
Population growth might be up but traffic is down. https://www.kxan.com/news/hold-texans-are-seeing-less-traffic-in-every-major-city-except-for-one/ And I imagine regular traffic is WAY down as freight traffic (Amazon) is likely up. Where are yall seeing this traffic in Houston? Suburbs?
Need more companies offering remote work options. Anyone who is able to do their job from home should be working from home.
Insurance and water are the 2 biggest upcoming clusterf**ks in Texas. And plugging orphaned oil/gas wells. The THREE biggest upcoming clusterf**ks in Texas. Yall don't have to worry about lack of water on the coast, but it's a huge deal everywhere else. Texas seems to not have a problem generating energy, it's the distribution side seems to have issues. They're building battery storage farms all over the place up here, and wind/solar is a booming industry.
