I also never expected him to flirt with participating in 2 no hitters in one season.

Compared to LMJ and Urquidy, Verlander has been an epitome of health.

I hear you except, JV aint pitching for free -- plus we lost extra prospects to re-attain him.

If they could get JV and Tucker back healthy and effective they could have a lot more fearsome team by season’s end than the one they had last season.

Astros: RHP Kendall Graveman (right shoulder surgery) threw off the Fenway Park mound before the game. Manager Joe Espada said it was around 10 pitches and they’ll wait to see how he feels before the next step.

So he might pitch this year?

Dezenzo is batting 6th today. It won't be long before he's slotting in every day in the 5 spot. Next year's top 5 looks good: Altuve 2B Tucker RF Yordan DH Diaz C Dezenzo 1B.

Who knows. There was a clip of him on a golf cart a month or so ago and he mentioned that he was going to try.

Arrighetti executing out pitches is a whole new Spencer. Early in the season how many times did he get 2 strikes on a guy but couldn't put them away. It's fun when you see young players take those kinds of steps forward.

Wasn't Murfee also trying to make it back before season's end? I don't know how effective they'd be but having two more available arms to look at can't hurt. I also think Whitley deserves another shot as a reliever and he's already on the 40-man.

Putting my rose colored glasses on, I will say that Graveman returning this season is at best 50/50.

Allegedly for his locker room presence but I can't remember if an actual reporter like Rome or McTaggart said it or someone like Schwab or that Bonda guy.

    Yordan Alvarez's 2024 OPS journey

    May 8th -- .743 (lowest after April)
    August 10th -- .942 (season-high)

    By month
    .328
    .891
    .776
    1.139
    .972
    1.380

He's on major surge which hopefully lasts (for the most part) the remainder of the season.

Because most teams including the Astros have no playing time for a 13th position player, so that role is best suited for someone who is a good clubhouse guy with the defensive versatile to play anywhere in case of injury-induced emergencies.

True. I’d prefer a 3rd catcher if you have a bat first catcher and another catcher you like to PH like the Astros like to with Caratini though. You could lose a game because you PH Caratini in the 8th and Yainer gets injured in the 9th and you have to do what- have aledmys Diaz catch the rest of an extra inning game. Thats a 1 game problem as Salazar would be on a plane before the big league game ended, but if it’s Salazar for a big time emergency v Diaz locker room presence give me Salazar
