And it was a weekend (Holiday shopping traffic I guess). I did find a place at 59 and 610 that I will call home for at least 6 months (close to Refman). I like the location, but loathe the traffic in the area (hence the subject of this thread). Now I get to experience morning rush hour (Dec 16th is my first day on the job). More adjustments. More change. More learning. Tough week of packing awaits.......
I've been working in the Galleria area since August...and I live in Spring Branch...and all this holiday traffic is BRUTAL. I leave work at 5:30 and usually get home at 6:30 Big change for me too after living in Austin for four years.
Everyone in Austin likes to compare Austin traffic to Houston and LA. I've lived in all 3, other than 1 stretch of 35 during rush hour, Austin doesn't come close. BTW, Drewdog, when will you be back in Austin? Are you planning on getting out for any more games when you're here, assuming you will be?
How is the construction on I-45 between the beltway and The Woodlands coming along? Some of my relatives drive from Conroe to their office at 45/beltway 8 every day and it's been a nightmare lately.
I think they are still working on it, and I think I saw a sign that said it won'nt be done til Summer 2003.
59 and 610 is one of the worst traffic spots in Houston all year round. Dont expect it to get better when the holidays end.
It's not too bad as long as you aren't trying to get on 610. If you can avoid 610 it isn't that hard to navigate. I have lived in this general area since 1999. It has been a lot worse since holiday shopping started. Welcome to the neighborhood Drewdog...let's have lunch sometime.
Well it is actually getting much better. It is now three lanes from Cypresswood to the Woodlands. Completion is due in mid to late 2003 I believe. 45 North is so crazy. It is jam packed from 610 to Beltway 8, then opens up from Beltway 8 to 1960/Cypresswood, sluggish to the Woodlands and then opens back up to Conroe. I think my two year old son could have planned this highway better than the TDOT. Ohh and I really enjoyed 59 being all funked up this weekend, made it so easy to get to and from Rice Univ for the pickup game...
Didn't take him too long to figure this one out. He got the picture on a weekend no less. Its kinda like the wife that wears on your nerves, you learn to deal with it so you do not have to take drastic action.
U.S. 59 at 610???? You only picked the SECOND WORST traffic place IN THE NATION to live near. There's lot to do over there.....if you can get to it. Not exactly the best commute to where you'll be working though. A few miles north at I-10 is the 9th worst traffic bottleneck IN THE NATION. It's a nice area to visit.....occasionally. Read all about it: http://www.highways.org/news/timemoney.pdf
The problem with this area is almost ENTIRELY because of 610. It has been my experience that if you stay off of 610, the traffic isn't really so bad. If you get on 610 at the wrong time...you will feel like you will live on 610 until you starve to death in your car.
Bros. Don't leave the house in H-Town this weekend- it's tax-free weekend back to school shopping. ****ing cray-zzzzzy. I was headed to one of my rent houses to do some work and was almost hit twice and saw two wrecks, all within five miles. While I was driving the opposite direction down the freeway to detour around wreck one I saw wreck two and decided the universe didn't want me to leave my house.
I had to run some errands. Was worried about BODIES (not so much traffic, IMO, we have far less traffic than we did pre-covid inside the loop while katy/woodlands are now death traps) - but didn't see anyone out. Very quiet in the Heights/Uptown. @Xerobull fullobuil
I spend a lot of time in LA these days, and Houston traffic doesn’t even compare I’d say Chicago traffic is worse too LA traffic is horrific at almost all times of the day in every direction
