I was the biggest Singleton fan. I truly thought he’d be this generations Jeff Bagwell, he had his issues and parted but on good terms. Seeing him return to the Astros was a really cool surprise, and seeing him rake at AAA was amazing. But MLB is a totally different animal, and it’s a marathon of boxing jabs to the body by elite MLB pitchers, Singleton has been dissected and is each day less of a threat to opposing pitchers. I’d rather Singleton back up at 1st base and DH for the time being while he get his mental acumen back to the chess board of battling MLB pitchers in a relaxed manner.
The down-the-line ramifications of that Pence trade will make your head spin: Pence for Singleton, Jarred Cosart, Josh Zeid, Domingo Santana (thought this was an amazing trade at the time) Cosart + Kike Hernandez traded for Francisco Martes, Jake Marisnick, Colin Moran and a Comp Round Draft Pick: turned into Daz Cameron (I also thought this was a great trade at the time) Santana + Hader + Adrian Houser + Brett Phillips got us Mike Fiers and Carlos Gomez (no comment) Cameron is part of the Verlander trade Moran is part of the Gerrit Cole trade Marisnick is traded for Kennedy Corona (who I believe is still alive in the Stros system)
This really goes to show that VERY VERY often the team that gets the MLB player makes out better than the team getting prospects.
I thought that Pence trade was going to fix everything. Cosart came out in his first mob game and dominated. Then when Luhnow flipped him I thought that was going to be a hall of fame trade with Moran and the comp pick. LOL
Commendatori was a great episode, the only "bad" episodes are "A Hit is a Hit", and maybe "Cristopher" but I never got why it's hated so much aside for being a filler stand-alone episode, which also produced the single best episode in the series, "Pine Barrens". "Mr. Ruggiero's Neighborhood" is another underrated gem.
It’s my favorite show. Several episodes kinda suck and a few arc’s are silly. Season 1 has its issues. It’s not a perfectly written show, and that’s part of the charm. Kinda like how I love “The Wire” but season 5 isn’t as good as the others. Oh and “A hit is a hit” isn’t that great, I agree. That one and “Christopher” are the most commonly called out for being bad episodes.
Luhnow screwed this one up. Singleton is fine as a bench bat, IMHO Ultimately, this will come down to how Dezenzo performs and whether Tucker makes it back. Thing is they can win the division without another 20 games of Tucker, but Dezenzo has to be a dude. So far so good
There's always road bowling! https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Irish_road_bowling Sorry, I thought the "Germanic Protestant" or "colored" but "no Irish" was kinda funny, as a Germanic British Scots Indigenous person.
Yep, and recency bias is a funny thing 90% of the board went pissed nuts over the Kikuchi trade Two starts later, TWO, 90% of the board wants him signed long term lol
It's always been in jest, but I'll never do it again. Because I like you too. There's a whole bunch of Texas history around us Germans and Hill Country types...we were not always thought of in glowing terms.
Meh… they offered those early-extension type deals to each of the following guys: Matt Dominguez, George Springer, Jon Singleton, Robbie Grossman, Jason Castro, (Jose Altuve). Each of them were basically asking those young/on the cusp players to hedge against themselves and guarantee a little financial security. Some of them took it, some of them didn’t, and really only one of them (Altuve) truly came through for Luhnow/Crane (and they’ve since taken care of him, as he’s taken care of them, and then some).[/QUOTE]
