A buddy just got done saying this. I guess that's as good of an explanation as any. Certainly being down by 17 points to Serbia isn't ideal and then having to eek out the win by dominating the 4th. But I do think other teams playing together for years whereas the US probably has just the time leading up to the Olympics to practice and be a cohesive unit. Some say too the USA team just doesn't give a damn sometimes and think they can beat anyone . Which they CAN, certainly. When they are on and a cohesive unit and not failing to play together, they're such a damn good team. On to face the silly Frenchmen on Saturday. Let's pray about this my brothers in Christ.
E: "We can confirm that Noah Lyles tested positive for COVID-19 on Tuesday, August 6th. In response, the USOPC and USATF swiftly enacted all necessary protocols to prioritize his health, the wellbeing of our team, and the safety of fellow competitors. "Our primary commitment is to ensure the safety of Team USA athletes while upholding their right to compete. After a thorough medical evaluation, Noah chose to compete tonight. We respect his decision and will continue to monitor his condition closely. "As an organization, we are rigorously adhering to CDC, USOPC, and IOC guidelines for respiratory illnesses to prevent the spread of illness among team members, safeguarding their health and performance." https://www.nbcnewyork.com/paris-20...ompete-at-the-2024-olympics-in-paris/5685726/
he's outside, so I would assume the risk is minimal. as an aside, I take Telmisartan (one of the several "sartans") for high blood pressure. I recently started taking Singulair for chronic indoor allergies (dogs, dust, etc). in looking for info on drug interactions, I came across this (Montelukast is the generic for Singulair): https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC10385313/ Spoiler Earlier studies with montelukast (M) and telmisartan (T) have revealed their potential antiviral properties against SARS-CoV-2 wild-type (WT) but have not assessed their efficacy against emerging Variants of Concern (VOCs) such as Omicron. Our research fills this gap by investigating these drugs’ impact on VOCs, a topic that current scientific literature has largely overlooked. We employed computational methodologies, including molecular mechanics and machine learning tools, to identify drugs that could potentially disrupt the SARS-CoV-2 spike RBD-ACE2 protein interaction. This led to the identification of two FDA-approved small molecule drugs, M and T, conventionally used for treating asthma and hypertension, respectively. Our study presents an additional potential use for these drugs as antivirals. Our results show that both M and T can inhibit not only the WT SARS-CoV-2 but also, in the case of M, the Omicron variant, without reaching cytotoxic concentrations. This novel finding fills an existing gap in the literature and introduces the possibility of repurposing these drugs for SARS-CoV-2 VOCs, an essential step in responding to the evolving global pandemic.
True, although the best player or players on many of the other teams also play in the NBA so they aren't able to play with the team in the same way.
It would suck for the vets, and the team in general, but I'd like to the the US run out the reigning NBA Champion in one of these international tournaments and just see what happens. Maybe give them a bye in the qualifications so they don't play a stupid amount of extra games?
"How dare you presume every NBA team is made up of just USA players!!!" (sorry, first time posting here... I presume theres the usual olympic complaints of racism, unfavorable coverage of everything thats not USA, biased announcers, etc. etc. etc.)
The line was USA -15.5. Jokic and Serbia didn't have to lose to cover... it was already a done deal. (for those thinking something sketchy was to blame in that 4th quarter).
She's starting to be on that Bolt level. lol. She's just quiet in comparison to Lyles, but she is far and away a more dominant sprinter. Seriously I was hoping for a battle with Bol, but Bol's time was meh for her. Also Anna Cockrell of the US coming in 2nd was awesome to see. She's been a great ambassador for the sport even at a young age (look up how much gratitude she shows to Dalilah Muhammad whenever anybody brings her up). Two class acts. Still thought Bol would do better. She may have just faded early by using up too much energy at the beginning. I could be wrong, but I just think his choice of words came out wrong. They hugged it out after the race and Lyles congratulated him on Twitter. If Lyles had been at full strength (assuming he wasn't), that would've been another crazy good race.
I was listening to SiriusXM's NBA channel and one of the other things they said is the problem is that when your entire team is loaded with guys that are elite and have egos that large, it's hard to ask some of them to set those egos aside. Like "Jayson Tatum - you aren't playing tonight." or "We may just have you standing in a corner shooting 3's". That's why they're selective about who they choose. It won't necessarily be the guys that score the most or are the flashiest, but who are ok with doing what they usually don't do or aren't expected to do. It's hard for some of these dudes to just watch the ball move around when almost all of them have been option #1 or #2 on their respective teams. On any given play on Team USA, they could be option #4 or #5. Guys just aren't used to that.
I think it's too hard to a 400/H double physically, but if anybody could it would be Sydney. I think she maybe should jsut switch to the flat 4 for variety's sake, but she can clearly win every World & Olympic championship in the 400H if she wants for the next few years - choices. THink you're referring to Tebogo callign Noah arrogant - I think you're right, I don't think it was supposed to be a burn, he was just descrinbing his persona and said track needed it - he also said he hoped he'd go on and win the 4x100 relay so it doesn't seem like there's any bad blood. We're huge Lyles fans out here but you can't root against Tebogo, the guy came out of nothing, grieving the death of his mother, you can't help but root for him and while Noah didn't get the double that I wanted to see, he got his gold in the 100, so he's not exactly coming home empty handed. I kind of hope Noah gives up on the 100 - you can't really do better than reigning World & Olympic champion - and tries to get Bolt's record in the 200 - he may not have enough to get the 200 in Los Angeles since he's 27 but Bolt's WR, when Noah is on his best and not COVID 19, is within reach. Here he should take a lesson from Sydney, who doesn't run that many 400H races but when she does, she runs only the biggest ones and just smashes her world record to pieces
I hope Sydney just says "there's nothing left for me to do with the 400m hurdles, I'm going to move onto the 400m flat", tbh. Once she's done with that, I'd love to see what she could do in the 200m with some proper training. She almost ran sub-22 in the 200 and beat 200m specialists not long ago including Gabby, but I think Gabby was coming back from an injury/wasn't in top form at the time, but she still smoked others that were actual 200m runners. Like I said, she's not of this universe. lol.
