No one who dislikes him and overly critical of him has yet to be able to clearly illustrate what he is or isn’t doing on the court or what low IQ means.
As I say a great part if not all of this comes down to judgement and hate. They judge his skinny frame as opposed to bigger or more solid guys and favor guys like Amen, Cam, Anthony Edwards. They call him weak. They dislike his black nails and fashion choice or his instagram site calling him effeminate. They mocked him for the JC video. They judge him on plays even when he isn’t at fault. One fan commented on how Green was playing too loose in trailing the ball handler after going over on high screens. I have seen him play over high screens and I explained that a player doesn’t want to get too close to the ball handler going over since the ball handler feels the player on their hip or after initial contact from the defender the handler goes into shooting motion to draw easy fouls. There already is a defender in drop coverage so the over guy simply waits for a pullup, pass, or dribble back out. Because people already have a negative view of him, they tend to assess him with negative lens that not necessarily reflects reality.
I don't know man. I think Amen's going to be a superstar too. I don't really have a problem with that part of it. I just wish they could see and enjoy what's unfolding in Green's journey. Sad to see them making stories up and spreading rumors about a Rocket. Like what would posses you to do that to one of our own players? Crazy.
Go back to where Green started being discussed in this thread and decide for yourself who brought Green up. I've been watching this like a hawk purely out of self reflection. At least in this thread, the first mentions of Green are by the people who were whining about it the other day. I don't get what people expect to happen when a popular player gets thrown into trades like a bag of chips.
Lazily palming off Amen's defense as 'good' and basically an afterthought - is exactly why no one gives credence to what you say. It's hilarious you equate athleticism to dunk highlights. It actually is even funnier that you describe Jalen's athleticism as 'more functional'... when he literally uses all that elite athleticism in zero other aspects of his game apart from dunking, and Amen already uses his athleticism to affect the game in more than one area. Already was italicised because he's played one NBA season. You may have forgotten Jalen has already played three and still hasn't put things together as quickly as Amen has. You see, a lot of (more knowledgeable) basketball minds put a lot more stock in a wide range of things on and off the basketball court, it's why you're so hung up on dunk highlights and tripping over yourself to reeee how amazing Jalen is, while the rest of those basketball minds are amazed with Amen. Wait... I hadn't even made it to the end of your wall of text until just now, where you referenced Jalen as 'a best in the league level scorer'. You're the reason why so many people cannot stand Jalen fans.
Accurate picture of Amen Thompson on summer vacation. Until jokes like this can no longer be made, he aint close to the potential superstar that Jalen is tbh.
How did Yao make the WBSS 2004? Pretty sure it's impossible to include him. He was owned by the Chinese Govt.
Jalen Green is absolutely more functional with his athleticism when it comes to offense like foot coordination and balance. He's a more.skilled athlete definitely. Amen has a higher motor and due to not having to expend as much energy on offense has energy to be a high motor defensive player. He also is physically a better specimen for defense with his longer reach and added strength with similar agility. Chuck Hayes was a much better defender than Jalen Green but it wasn't because he used his athleticism better. It's because he had a high motor and strength
You guys know you are comparing Jalen after 3 years to about 30 games for Amen? Can’t we just say they both are great athletes with great upside.
Imagine trying to claim Amen's more functionally athletic than Jalen when he's got almost zero athletic highlights compared to literally HUNDREDS of examples of Jalen throwing down insane athletic jams...People are either stupid, ignorant or crazy at this point.
Amen definitely has some crazy unicorn highlights especially defensively where he covers so much space with his combo of athleticism and reach. He's like a guard/small forward version of Wemby in that regard. And it's not like Amen can't pull off a europstep. He definitely is capable and has done some slick moves like that but when you watch Green there is a different manner in how he dribbles and navigates with the ball that suggests a different tier of skil and coordination with the ball relative to Amen.
Sure, but thats not really the debate. The debate is the estimated or perceived likelihood of each player realizing their upside and it translating to their game.
Yes due to the nature of their roles, it's more likely Amen reaches it. Amen can be a long term star without being a high usage on ball dominant guard. Jalen Green to be a star he has to be that high usage on ball guard. And that route to stardom is always going to be harder. You have to show a lot for a NBA franchise that wants to win rings to make you the high usage on ball dominant guard of the team. Jalen Green has only shown flashes. The serious fans are hoping the flashes turn into consistency in his 4th year with his second year under serious coaching. The haters are just counting down the days till he is traded as a foregone conclusion.
