You basic. I know this is where science and facts get hard for many but there are many other variations of chromosomes other than XY. For example, you can be XXY where the Y is recessive. A simple blood test is inconclusive.

In short, nobody has found a 100% foolproof way to determine gender because there always seems to be an exception. If there was indeed a silver bullet way to determine gender, we wouldn't be having this discussion. This issue has been debated for 100 years. It's odd that with all our science knowhow, we can't find a universally agreeable test to determine gender but it is what it is.

One thing is very clear, you can't look at somebody to determine gender. That is easily disproven.
You also can't look at performance otherwise transgendered people would own every female world record, which they don't.

The IOC could (and should) conduct physical exams and blood testing on these two boxers. If they conclude that they were born with male genetalia and have XY chromosomes, then they should be disqualified from competing in women's sports.

... so the question is.. why isn't the IOC conducting physical exams to these two boxers? (I have my own opinion as to why they don't).

Frankly, I'm surprised that the IOC doesn't conduct physical exams on all athletes. They certainly should.

Solving problems requires more than who you'd have sex with.

 

That's been tried. They made women strip and did exams. Was deemed unnecessary humiliation. It's a slippery slop. What criteria do you use to do the exam? Everyone? At request? Turns into a witch hunt scenario, which sucks. Plus there are Trans people with geneticly malformed but still test as male or female with mismatched genitals. What then?

Also XY chromosome is an insufficient test. For example, you can be XXY so blood tests are inconclusive.

Turns out, determining gender isn't so easy. Of it were, this wouldn't be an issue.
