I’ve already established my view on Meyers so this is just a comment on the baserunning value. I’m not saying it’s useless by any means but the fact it doesn’t even take into account stolen bases is stupid. There is absolutely no way you’re going to convince me Jake Meyers is a better baserunner than Elly De La Cruz, who is behind Meyers on this stat you are referencing here. He has 57 stolen bases.
If anything, this only furthers my view point in that I don’t believe this team has zero chance like others think due to this bad run. These guys aren’t good but they are no where near as bad as those numbers since 7/1. They are all streaky hitters and at some point they will get hot again. People keep saying even getting Tucker back won’t be enough…replacing one of the above guys with Tucker’s production is a HUGE difference. Add in the fact the starting pitching has been really good and appears to have stabilized with JV returning in the next two weeks - I’m not writing this team off
Pressly already likely was in his feelings about being demoted to the 8th inning role. How do you think moving him to the 7th is going to go? We just need to move him in the off season.
FWIW I would like nothing more than this team to have an all star CF. I do not think Meyers is some great player. But when looking at the rest of the current roster, and the other CF in MLB, he gets way too much criticism on this site.
So we hate Jake again now?…but in the other thread we are longing for Click… who bet his job on Jake. so confused…
Thankfully he bet it on him because if I recall Crane wanted Starling Marte so we would be sitting on another bad contract right now.
I just kind of assumed that if the next inning had a superstar lefty due up followed by someone who is 111 out 116 against you the manager might switch it up a bit.
I get what you’re saying but I don’t think there’s a single manager in the league that is bringing a $95M closer into the 8th inning. I’m guessing Emmanuel Clase, Mason Miller, and every other elite closer has pitched in strictly the 9th inning as well. And I think there’s an argument to be made that all those guys should be pitching the 8th in situations where the middle of the lineup is due up in the 8th.
