    We can disagree.

He is average with the bat. The defense takes his overall game above average.

35 players have played more CF than any other position and have at least 250 PAs.

Jake is 15th in wRC+ (95) which is almost the definition of average. He is tied for 3rd in Outs above average (10) which is significantly above average.

According to Baseball savant, he is 90th percentile in baserunning value which equals +2, and 15th percentile in arm value which equates to a -2 so those offset.

The overall product is good, not great, but decidedly above average.

He does have only 1 weakness.

    Positives: glove and baserunning
    Average: bat
    Negatives: arm.

I’ve got a question that I truly don’t know what this team does about it…what the hell do we do about Chas moving forward?

If you trade him this winter, you’re probably not getting much and we are just setting ourselves up to look like idiots if he rebounds. At the same time, you can’t seriously go into opening day with him as the starting LF with no other options. It’s such a difficult situation to navigate. He should have been sent down to AAA to work things out back in June.

He is 11th out of 20 qualified CFers in fWAR. Carroll is behind him and we know he’s not better than him. Luis Robert is also behind him because he doesn’t qualify and we know he’s a better option. Meyers is literally the definition of average.

Edit: Also, I don’t think there’s a stat that clearly reflects the impact a weak arm has in the OF. Example from last night with Chas in LF - Nate Lowe probably doesn’t even attempt to go first to third on the ball hit by Garcia and he damn sure doesn’t try to score on the shallow fly ball the following batter. They don’t score that inning if Leon or anyone else with an arm was playing left.

Below avg bat, especially for an OF. Positive baserunning?

Yesterday should've opened some eyes, but I guess it didn't.

Like I said he's a starting OF on a bad team or a 4th OF on a good team. He's essentially Siri.

I’m still scratching my head at using the big three of abreu , pressley, hader, and then turning to Ferguson to close it out.
    Taylor scott was well rested.

Didn't Pressly do the same in the 8th? If I remember right, he also shook off Yainer twice to throw the fastball.

I'd take Siri over Meyers but yeah, Meyers isn't all that. Meyers would be worst than Chas this year if not for a hot streak in May.

Too much of this offense and team is like throwing darts at a dartboard and going with whatever sticks. Not a recipe for success.

Because he isn't on this team for his bat.

Even after his terrible current 2+ months with the bat his wRC+ is 95.

If he was a 1b or a LF then, yes, that is bad.

As a hitter, he is 15th out of 35 centerfielders.

It was the 1b, 3b, LF, RF, and DHs job to get enough runs to win that game. And this team has star level hitters at C and 2b as well so they have earned the responsibility to be counted on as well.

Meyers Needs to produce at an average level when he gets an opportunity and last night sucked, but the team should have done enough that his bat is an extra, not a necessity.

Meyers is on this team to catch the ball.

The 1b, LF, RF, and DH were 0 for 15 w/ 8 strikeouts. Where is all the outrage about that?

The Astros are actually the worst MLB team in extra inning games since they added the ghost runner on 2nd.

I was under the impression that when they signed hader there would be matchups that dictated different usage.
    Nope it’s you’re 7,8,9 and we aren’t budging.

I don't think anyone said matchups would dictate usage.

We all assumed it but I never heard it from anyone in the organization.

Deviation requires innovation. Espada hasn't shown that. He seems to only know how to play his hand one way.

I’m very much a believer in analytics so I agree there is some value in the numbers you are posting

    But team context also matters

He can’t be your every day CF while you are also running Jon out there every day along with two of Cabbage, Doob and Chas. If Tucker was playing and Chas was the everyday LF and producing like he has in the past, you could handle having Jake in CF

The roster doesn’t allow for a defense first CF unfortunately
