What's shitty about that is that it feels almost artificially created. If Jim Crane doesn't go full Jerry Jones, there's a very high likelihood this team would still have a roster capable of winning this division by 7+ games.
Did anybody think that Abreu and Chas would be two of the worst hitters in baseball this year? Did any expect Kyle Tucker to lose a leg and most of a season this year? On the other hand, would anyone expect the Astros to not pick up *any* starting pitching for two straight off-seasons? Was it predictable that the Astros would see so many holes in their lineup at the trade deadline and not get anybody? The Astros suddenly have the worst outlook in the city.
This is what I've been trying to tell the Meyers fans. Put this together with his weak arm and you've got a quality 4th OF on a good team, or a starting CF on a bad team. Have you ever seen a team with two weaker OF arms than Meyers and Chas?
Yes Dana needed to add a bat and a pitcher at the deadline. Many on here thought this before the deadline. Many also thought Abreu was done.
Last night was a gut punch, we load the bases multiple times and we cant capitalize on it. I am ready to admit Jake M is no better than a 4th OF option, Jon S is not a starting caliber 1s baseman (which I already knew) and we need some major upgrades this off season and I dont think Espada should keep his job. I`ll keep watching and rooting but in reality, I don't see us going anywhere. Its been such a roller coaster................but dam if Altuve, Bregman and Yordan cant hit for some power and clutch play we have no chance with Tuck out. It seems like all the "luck" and clutch play I am used to has faded and it's time to reset..............boy, that game took the wind out of my sails, let's go Texans
can't believe josh smith beat astros for the gazillion times this season. ferguson looked good in the first 2 batters (same with pressly. what's worse for pressly was that they had a mount visit!). then both gave up homers. good lord man. smh. i'm tired and i'm sure some of y'all are too.
Espada's continual use of the same three relievers in the exact same order is hilarious. (until one of them screws up)
This is why he is just a manager, not a top tier manager. Pretty much the batters know they are facing. The other team has our cheat sheet. 5 Free-Agents next season - McCormick, Garbage, Meyer, Dubon, Bregman They are swinging it for the rest of the season, hit or not. Miss, or not, they need hits, not walks. Let's do some theatric catches to go with it.
This is just a bad take/opinion. espada, just like all managers in the league has their 7th, 8th, and 9th inning guy when games are close let it be trailing or ahead. The only time managers don't go to their 7th, 8th, or 9th inning guy is when they've pitched a ton the day before. Who do you want espada to use in high leverage situations? Dubin, king, Scott, ort? These are your choices that didn't pitch yesterday.
Well that was fun. I have a text thread with my out of town buddies who I used to have season tickets with where we watch the games together. I called it in the 2nd inning. We're losing via walkoff.
Jake Meyers is a good, not great, starting CF. There is no such thing as a perfect player, and all players have hot and cold streaks. Jake is not on this team for his bat. He catches balls in CF that only a handful of guys in baseball can get to, and that has very real value. The problem is that he should not be hitting 5th. If Jake is the 9th best hitter on this team (or even 8th best w/ Pena) then this team is much better and his failings at those situations do not hurt as bad. The problem is the guys who ARE on this team for their bats are slumping too and that this team does not have hitters in 1b and LF as they should. Jake is about 8th on the list of who is at fault for the Astros sucking right now.
He’s not good. Closer to average and that’s about it. That said, I agree you can live with him if he’s hitting 8th or 9th and the real issue is at 1B/LF.
Can't hit, can't throw, but he's a good CF. If he couldn't cover ground or catch the ball I guess that would make him a bad CF. Like I said have you ever seen an OF with weaker arms than Meyers, Chas and I know you have watched a lot of ball. A good OF has one weakness not two, a good of hits ,250-.260 with a weak arm. Or on the opposite end of the spectrum you've got Siri.
