Canha could've been had for a prospect on the level of Santa. I would've given up a guy like Gordon and Corona for him.

Luhnow had the huge advantage also of having a very highly rated system. Outside of the Correas and Bregmans and Tuckers of the world our current system may be just as talented as the rest of Luhnows farm systems, but they aren't rated nearly as highly by most prognosticators and likely other organizations. That allowed Luhnow to dangle players more highly sought after than what Dana can currently do.

Don't get me wrong, I think Jeff was as good as any GM that has run an organization, and Brown I think is a great prospect talent evaluator and has done an iffy job of roster building and trading. But he certainly isn't dealing from the strong systems Luhnow was so strictly from a trading standpoint it's tough to compare the two. Now, if he drafts well, and the very early returns look like he is, then the organization will get deeper with talent and more highly thought of and then we will see how good he is at the deadline

Luhnow built this system from scratch.

Brown needs to add to the system and so far so good with his drafts.

I like Brown as GM, but he should've added a bat and he had the prospects to add a guy like Cahna for a top 25 prospect guy. Cahna would've helped solve an issue the team has had hitting LHP and improved this teams chances of winning another ring.

And Winker would have solved LF against RHP. It sucks that we didn’t even bother to do a deal on those levels with gaping holes

You think he was told to ignore position players at the trade deadline?

You can't roll into the pennant chase with a Singleton and Dubon platoon at first base. When your first baseman is batting 8th or 9th, you know you're in some hard times.

Caratini and Yainer need to play first when not catching. Hope that Leon gets going. Get Tucker back. Trade for Yuli. Bring up dezenzo.

I dont know about this, I think Dana is allowed to make minor trades like a Cahana trade.

Remember I'm a Dana fan, but he screwed the deadline up, I'm guessing because of his inexperience as a GM.

I am also a Dana fan but there is no doubt he screwed up.

By all accounts, the cost for adding players at the deadline were the highest ever.

But this team NEEDED a bat or 2. Not WANTED, NEEDED.

Especially once he spent prospect capital on Kikuchi, he NEEDED to pay the moon if he had to in order to get a bat.

Backing out due to prices is like putting half your stack of chips in a poker hand and then letting someone bluff you into folding.

The only scenario where this does not end up as a season crushing mistake, is if some combination of Leon, Dezenzo, or Whitcomb have a very productive August/September IN HOUSTON or he finds a scrap heap guy like J D. Davis or Yuli who comes in and plays out if his mind (unlikely -those guys aren't in MLB now for a reason)

Cahna/Burger/Winkler weren't, wouldn't have been to expensive. Probably cost something like Tamarez and and Santa for Cahna and Burger.

If healthy I'm hoping for Votto or Davis.
