Seattle wins on a walk off walk. But looks like ump helped them. On the livr GameDay thing, ball 2 was called on a clear strike 3 which would have ended the inning
Ump helped the Mariners a bunch in the 9th with Munoz pitching. Harper's entire at-bat was bullshit. He got punished for not failing out of the zone and ump rung him up.
I hear you, except, Meyers' defense can never be "great" -- his noodle arm will always prevent it. Trout has a similar problem. Neither player processes all three tools that coincide defense. Jake is "good" though.
I'm still trying to figure out how much the home plate umpire pocketed in this cheating scandal for the Mariners.
On the bright side, we should have a 5 game losing streak. Pirates error game and Yordan running home on a hustle play. We are averaging mid 2 runs a game during the 5 game span. Down 1 game is remarkable.
Ok after watching the replay, and it's not just this missed call but why do umps call a strike a ball when a catcher doesn't catch it cleanly(doesn't frame it because his glove is moving)? And while we're at it, they also call a strike a ball if a catcher has his glove set up but catches the pitch elsewhere. And in this case, looks like it was both of these situation. Realmuto was set up elsewhere and when he had to catch the ball, his momentum didn't allow him to frame it. Is it just the umps being petty? Glove deceiving them because he caught it at the strike zone but the glove went out of the zone after.
The catcher made the catch worse because it looked like outside the way he caught it. The Phillies may have a manager that is inept sort of like Dusty, riding his pitcher till the end of the inning. Hoffman should of been pulled after the Mariners 4th run, they were hitting rockets. It is hard to fathom they got Arozarena, J.Turner and V.Robles. in 2017, all 3 would be wanted by all of MLB.
Because it’s always been hard AF to call balls/strikes and they need as much context/visual cues as possible. It’s amazing these guys get more than 95% of the calls right routinely. Most things that are 95% successful have a role in society. However, there are some things where 95% may not be enough. Vasectomies for instance. The umpires union needs to realize that the ABS is not simply for the borderline calls that even the most perfect umpire may only get 50% of the time…. It’s so the most egregious ones are never missed.
Maybe Yordan can try being more useful today. As well as the rest of our lineup. Good ****ing luck with Arrighetti though.
