Katie Ledecky becomes the 7th person and 1st woman to win 4 golds in an event (800m free) She joins Carl Lewis, Michael Phelps and some other guys.
Did anyone watch In the Company of Heroes on the Olympics broadcast? Wow, I had tears flowing during that whole special. That really got to me. I'd like to go visit France one day when they have that week long celebration. I can't believe how good some of those veterans look at over 100. It's going to be so sad when they are all gone.
Teddy Riner French Judoka just today got his fourth gold in Judo, two were in the team competition so technically not the same event. Those four golds plus two bronzes make him the most decorated Judoka ever.
Just happened to catch it. I was doing some house work but stopped to watch it. Great tribute and loved to see how much the French children got along with the veterans.
Closed it out in the 2nd set. I believe they move on to face a Norwegian duo, the defending Olympic champs. Good luck, Bud.
Was she really the favorite? This is why I get sick of NBC’s coverage listening to them you would think that Richardson was going to set a WR everytime she was on the track.
I loved that. It's so great to know that they teach their youth how many Americans lost their lives coming to the aid of their country against the sick and evil Hitler. You could see the love and respect they gave to our Veterans. It had my tears flowing.
This is the mixed 400's. There are going to be new world records set somewhat frequently since it's still a fairly new event. The other thing is that most countries aren't going to put their best 400m runners in this event. They usually just let the ones that didn't make the cut for the 400m run it as a consolation. The best usually don't compete also because they may be running in "real" events later, so don't want to tire out or injure themselves. In comes Femke Bol who basically said "screw that" and is probably the #2 400m women's hurdler on the planet behind Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone (those 2 are on another planet in terms of competition) and she easily reels in all these other pretenders. lol. I honestly was hoping the US would have a bigger lead because Bol's kick is insane. If she had been trying to run down McLaughlin-Levrone, though, I doubt she would've done it, but damn would it have been fun to watch. If Levrone would've been the anchor leg, I think they would've won it fairly easily. If y'all want to watch a battle of 2 dominant runners who are far ahead of just about everyone else in the sport, watch the 400m hurdles Finals where Bol should be running against McLaughlin-Levrone. If it works out, it should just basically be a 2-person race.
She was the defending World Champion and also had the fastest time in the world this year The time she ran at either the Trials a month ago or last year's WC would have won the gold today. Yes, she was the favorite to the extent there was one, no she didn't deliver today.
